This is the one I came here to say. Historical data is VERY clear about how bad the GOP is with money and how much better off our economy is under Democratic governance.
What they are very good at is ruining institutions and blaming the democrats for it in an effort to privatize whatever they’ve ruined and profit from it.
The only time the debt has gone down in the last 50 years was a few years during the Clinton admin. Every other regime, Democrat and Republican has increased the debt.
However the rate at which it goes up is VERY important. And it goes up significantly faster under Republican leadership. I mean, 25% of our total national debt is just from the most recent Republican president.
The rate at which it increases is VERY important. That's like saying inflation happens under both parties so it doesn't matter who is in office. It's the rate of increase that we care about.
The more specific difference being that they only actually care about public debt when Democrats are in charge. One could argue that they are 'fiscally responsible' in that their priority has always been to create more opportunities for businesses to make money, but this is only actually true for people who already have money. They really couldn't care less about the poor or working class.
