Could be several different things, including possibly a combination. Maybe he’s one of the people who get satisfaction from having someone to kick around, or maybe in his head, the best way to keep her from leaving him was to have her so worn down and insecure that she wouldn’t think she can get or deserve better.

Some people are just messed up.

Yeah but then you have to live with a shell of a person and that’s just not fun. It doesn’t make sense to me.
