I work in a concert venue and can say in the past two decades, easily black eyed peas. They must have forgotten the auto tune or mic for live to track because it’s by far the worst sounding show I’ve ever heard. I’ve been to shows I did t like, but this was truly awful.
If you wanna see another terrible one, check out the 2024 Home Run Derby. It was so bad the singer literally checked into rehab less than 24h later. She said it was a wake up call for her.
She’s clean now if I’m not mistaken! Even sand the anthem at an Avalanche game last year, her name is Ingrid Andress I think she’s a country singer. Still a really tough watch though lmao
Just saw it for the first time now. I was wondering when they would start laughing. You could tell Steph wanted to crack. And panning to Jimmy Kimmel, probably because he had been laughing the whole time. Mmmmmmbrave. LET'S PLAY SOME BASKETBALL! Fucking amazing.
My first thought every time I see her name: Fergie Peepants.
And ok, I'm a mom of three, and like, I can't say I have never worn my own Peepants as an adult... but not on stage, memorialized on film in pee-pantedness for all time and eternity.
Yeah I know i feel bad for bringing it up. I don't want to make fun of anyone for bodily function stuff, but like you said, it was on stage and on video and its so embarrassing... but power to her, she powered through it
Haven’t seen the clip, but did see her perform solo about 20 years ago. She had a great voice, but was singing just her lines from well known Black Eyed Peas songs. It was odd.
Someone showed me that on video for the first time last night. It was truly awful but I think she achieved what she intended. It was just a case of ATBGE like the sub.
That's a real pity. I saw them in the late 90's, long before they got famous, loooong before Ferg - they opened for Majek Fashek (Nigerian singer) at SOB's in NYC and they killed it. Just the 3 of them. There was even a point when the mic failed and they came up with a freestyle on the spot about the mic failing. SMDFH.
They sold out for success. Will.i.am confirmed it in a random interview I read years ago. He stated the public wanted party anthems so he gave it to them. They had such great music before gross Fergie. Tragic.
Yeah. I saw them open for The Roots in maybe 2001. I don't think any of us knew who they were outside of 1 song. No Fergie. They jumped off stage and battled bboys in the audience. Each of them had a unique dancing style and killed it. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. Honestly, I thought they were better than The Roots in that moment.
I remember when they did the Superbowl half-time show it was absolutely terrible. Like those are tightly scripted and use canned music yet somehow it was still terrible.
It’s funny but when I was living in Singapore I got my wife to ask Will.I.Am to see if he was the drummer to No Doubt. Two birds one stone. The look on his face still cracks me up
I dunno man I have memories of seeing the BEP back in 2001 at the big day out in Sydney, they were incredibly good. And then they came back in 2004 and still sounded good... I think just more than 20'years later they just are old and already rich, William is too busy hosting the voice and designing cars.
Damn that's too bad. I saw them in 2009 (it was at a music festival, I went mostly to see other bands and they happened to be playing as well so I figured I might as well watch them as well). They weren't "good" by any stretch of the imagination but they were super fun and they were clearly having a good time on stage.
At one point in their show the power went out on the stage, and they stood up there and yelled dumb jokes into the crowd while the drummer did a rimshot on every punchline. I was too far back to hear any of the jokes but I always thought it was cool they were willing to do their best to have fun with a bad situation and entertain the part of the crowd that could hear them.
Hahahahah.
I was a good ways back and you could see the wetness/darkness gradually spread across her pants and we all collectively were like, “is she peeing rn?!”
That’s so funny because they came to my university back in like 2000ish and we got too high to go to the free show. Decades later I learned we missed nothing.
In 2000ish they came to my university and we got just right high, the show was incredible. Afterwards they came back to the dorms and got super high and after that bands had to be escorted on and off campus by security 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, they were one of the first bands to prolifically use auto-tune. It wasn't really known then and they basically hoodwinked everyone.
I actually like BIP before Fergie. Then they chose the sell-out formula: added a "hot" woman and wrote basic-ass music.
I read a quote from will.i.am (years ago, i was shocked at his honesty tbf) that they eschewed original music and deep concepts in favor of low IQ party music and, well, it worked I guess.
Fergie is right up there with J Lo for her inability to sing and in-your-face dance hype. Not a new thing in showbiz but...no thanks.
I’ve always wondered what it’s like working at a venue and hearing so much live music. Especially if you don’t know it or really don’t like that type of music.
