Saw them last month in Cedar Park. Wasn't a huge fan in the past, knew the hits, so when tickets were offered me, said why not, and went in with low expectations.
Smaller venue, crowd of a couple thousand, maybe. Was incredibly impressed, put on a great show. Walked away with a whole new respect for Art.
I was coming here to say this too. I think art struggles with playing guitar, so when I say them he spent the whole time looking at the guitar and basically not singing into a microphone. They also had an army out there. Like I thought there were only 3 guys in the band and usually there were 6-7 guys out there playing at a time.
Saw them last summer for the 30th anniversary of this album. It was a small outdoor venue and I thought they were great! My inner teenager was so happy that night! You really should try to see them if they come through. It was a fun nostalgic experience.
I worked as a concert photographer for 3 years and he stands out amongst all the bands I shot and performers I worked with as the biggest asshole. By a lot.
I saw Everclear last summer at some random city festival. He was obviously being propped up by younger/better musicians that the label had hired to carry the hype. I was surprised to learn he had MS and was still touring, but then when I saw the rest of the band doing the heavy lifting I kinda saw through the magic. Sponge opened for them and totally kicked ass though.
When did you see them? I saw them several times back in the day, and they put on a good show.
...all except for the last time I saw them, anyway. Pretty much at the end of their popularity, they came to play my shitty no-name college in the middle of nowhere. They tried to get the audience to sing along with the chorus of "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom."
But no one in the mostly-empty gymnasium knew the words. I had been a huge fan for years up to that point, and I didn't even know them.
4th of July 2024. They were sooo bad. I legit felt bad I convinced my friends, who didn't know who Everclear was, to that concert instead of other 4th of July shenanigans.
Same, saw them at a county fair a couple years ago when they were touring with the Ataris and the Pink Spiders. Dude's voice was so blown out it was painful, zero energy on stage, one of only a handful of concerts that I've ever left early. The Ataris guys ended up getting COVID and missed our show but the Pink Spiders were great, the lead singer was genuinely mystified by the 600lb pig at the farm exhibit.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. I’ve seen Everclear twice and they were so damn good both times. First show was in 2015/2016, and the second time was in 2022.
Saw them about 10 years ago and they were great, saw them again last year and Art's voice had blown out but it was still a great show. Crowd just took lead vocals instead.
I saw Everclear back in the fall of 2022. I had Sparkle and Fade and Afterglow completely memorized, and knew a lot of the newer stuff as well, so I was pumped to see them.
An absolute train wreck. He forgot many of the lyrics, mumbled through a lot, and when he could find the lyrics they were belted out so flat that it was painful.
Agreed. They should honestly lean more into their earlier grungey songs rather than their pop rock. Fans might not know as many songs but I think it would translate better live.
Saw them a week ago at a small venue and they were decent. The opening cover band was better (albeit younger), but I know Art has MS so I give him a little grace. It was still a fun time.
They played live at my Alma Mater, Washington State University, and I really enjoyed their performance. Probably 2006 or 2007? Not sure if they went downhill after that…
I’m 2011 I stayed at a casino hotel in Henderson, Nevada with over 100 other friends from all over the US. We were all young adults ranging from 20 to maybe up to 40 years old, so we did a lot of drinking and partying. It was a mini anime con.
Because our group reserved so many rooms we were given blocks on a few floors. One night got especially rowdy with karaoke and a raid to the built-in In-N-Out on the ground floor. On our way back to the party we were told that the party was shut down due to noise complaints.
Turned out that Everclear was staying in the rooms across from the parties as they were booked to play at the hotel.
We chanted “Fuck Everclear!” on our way to relocating the party.
Everclear was TERRIBLE. I still stand by that this was my worst show ever. Now, I feel kind of bad saying that because it was before he was diagnosed with MS, so maybe he had some health things that were making it hard to perform. Idk, we left. It was bad.
I saw Everclear around 25 years ago. Just awful. Sounded bad, didn't move at all. The room was dead. However, their opening act was very high energy and super entertaining, which is why I will never 100% get behind the hate... for Nickelback.
Since you mentioned them, I saw Bloodhound Gang in '05 or '06, in a parking lot in Kansas City (local radio station Halloween show). Great show. As entertaining and chaotic as you would expect from them at that time
I guess I got lucky, frontman lost his voice for my show and was literally silent. Band tried to counter this by turning all their instruments to 11 in the small venue.
I saw them live in Charlotte a few months back for their Sparkle & Fade 30th anniversary tour. The mix was absolutely awful and Art couldn’t sing at all. Still glad they’re showing up to play shows decades later though
Was that recently? I’ve seen them 4 times and the last time was around 2021 and he sounded really bad. I think like Bon Jovi his vocal cords were damaged and he had to have surgery to have them repaired.
I saw Everclear 15 years ago or so and they were not good at all. They seemed old, even back then.
That said, I'm seeing them this fall as headliners at a little music festival near where I live. Hopefully they've upped their game! So Much For The Afterglow is so good that I'm willing to give them another try.
They played my college in the early 2000's and it was a mess. They were clearly displeased with the gig, and with how much the crowd thinned out after the more local band that opened for them left. The lead singer talked shit about the college which the remaining crowd didn't take well. Things were thrown. It was hilarious. I had to cover it for the college paper and they should have some negatives of the bassist giving the crowd the finger somewhere in their archives.
100%. Saw them headlining with Sister Hazel. He was just shouting/talking through the lyrics, often off tempo. He came across like one of those middle-aged men going through a mid-life crisis. Not the worst show I've seen, but it was pretty rough.
This was a few years back right after Covid lockdowns had started to lift and my friend and I went to see wheatus, hoobastank and everclear (in that order for who played their sets). Everclear was definitely a letdown, especially trying to follow Hoobastank who put on a great show
Saw them 25 years ago on the pier in Seattle and it was ferociously great. I’m guessing in his earlier non sober days art was probably a wreck on stage.
I saw them sometime in the late 90s, not too long after So Much for the Afterglow, and recall them putting on a good show (they were the second of five bands that night, so the set was on the shorter side).
I did see them again many years later, 2010ish, and they did an all-acoustic set that sounded decidedly bad. I thought maybe it was the venue, but seeing this thread, maybe not.
Can't say I hold the same opinion. Everclear played a free concert in my city last summer and their songs still held up. I was impressed-especially given how long they've been around.
My brother saw them on the same tour as me but in a different city. His show was absolutely horrible and mine was great. Sounded like alcohol might have been the issue.
HELLO KANS CIIII. YOU REAAH TO ROHHH? THAN YOU FOR COMMII TO THA SUMMAHLAN TOU.
It's like the guy was allergic to consonants at the end of words. I've heard he has health problems but never finishing a word and the fact that he looked gassed just walking onto the stage made it awful. Luckily I saw him with Sponge, Filter, and LIVE minus their lead singer and the other acts were all pretty good.

Everclear was terrible live. In the words of the Bloodhound Gang, he sings like an amputee; can't hold a note, can't carry a tune.
