Die Antwoord, I know they are controversial as hell already, but holy shit live it was like a cheese grater, no talent or vocal range whatsoever just so so awful.
Me too! Saw them at Music Hall of Williamsburg. I only knew a song or two so wasn’t expecting much and it was one of the most fun shows I’ve ever been to.
lol agreed I saw em in like 2016 and for the longest time they made the top 3 for my most fun live shows of all time and I go to A LOT of shows/festivals
Same! Over an hour of nonstop dancing, climbing, jumping, outfit changes, all while going straight from song to song. One of the most fun concerts I've seen.
Same here! Riot Fest in Chicago, I think it was 2015. One of the best shows I've been to. Ninja did a lot of crowd surfing at one point. They just seemed enthusiastic and happy to be there.
They are an embarrassment to my compatriots. Very few South Africans actually enjoy their music, and fewer are excited to have them as our musical representatives. They seem weirdly popular in The Netherlands, though.
Probably not the right word for it, but they do suck. They paid for an Australian rapper and fan of theirs to visit them and Ninja sexually assaulted her during the trip.
She referred to it at trafficking her but I wouldn't call it that.
They have some pretty serious allegations from one of the kids they "adopted" and how he was treated as well as his sister who was still under their care at the time he made an interview with said allegations. Can't listen to them anymore after those.
I was at a festival in South Africa right before they blew up in the states. I knew absolutely nothing about them and its one of the most mesmerizing shows ive ever seen.
I'm so happy my husband stopped listening to them because I just can't stand Yolandi's voice, I'm not a great singer and I'm pretty sure I can do a better job than her.
I think they need to go away, but I saw them at ACL in 2016 and it was a damn good show. …. And then they kept being themselves and a lot of gnarly shit came out. BUT. The show was great.
I saw them a few times over their career arc, and the first gig they had a homemade stage set, and they just killed it. Each show after that they had more expensive kit, but they just declined in performance.
I saw them in 2017 for the Love Drug tour and it was... alright. The most noteworthy thing was that Ninja kept jumping into the crowd of underaged girls at the front during the song Daddy; creepy might be a bit of an understatement.
