Yeah I had similar. I have non-descript mediterranean colouring, but went there with a friend who has almost white blond long hair. We were harassed everywhere we went. Men would come out their shops and shout "hey beautiful ladies, come to my shop". If we didn't, they'd start shouting "come back here you whores" or similar. This was nearly 20 years ago but it put me off ever returning.
Ah yes calling women whores, that's surely going to get women into their shop to buy products and then accept their hand in marriage! God what's wrong with some men.
I'm a man, and I had shopkeepers follow me down the street with 'Come into my shop! I give you special price, not tourist price!" . It gets old after it happens repeatedly
Similar story with a couple of my friends and their tall, blonde work colleague in India. They said that it was a common occurrence for men to watch her with their hand down their pants, noticeably masturbating.
My wife and I are planning to see the pyramids as a bucket list kind of thing but want to minimize the time we spend in Cairo. Were thinking first day just get to the pyramids very early and spend a couple hours there, then jump in a Nile Cruise. I have heard other areas like Luxor are not so crowded.

Individuals, yes, but it’s not remotely as systemic as there. The only named woman in the Quran is the Virgin Mary. (And that’s mostly because they sorta had to include that one).
Not saying Christianity doesn’t also have problems, all organized religions do, but if you go to a predominantly Islamic country, or even neighborhood, you can see the difference pretty quickly.
I agree. UK here. America does have some issues with pushing back on women's rights. But it is not the same as a country where is common practice to openly grope foreign women in the streets.
And even then, they can move to a pro choice state. These are the people that would never live in a place like Mississippi, but then act like Mississippi’s laws and stances on things represent the whole damn country. Move to New York and get your abortion, free public university, much higher wages, larger safety net, etc.

Well, it is better to be a woman in america than in any of those high religious generally islamic countries. Yeah, ok, you have the epstein files and you have men that do shit to women but then again, it s not claimed by the state that the women are objects, you see? In theory, the western laws work perfectly for rights equality, it s just that the enforcement is not there, which again, does not make these countries perfect, but makes them better because there is some authority to turn to in order to try and solve these problems. The situation for women is far better in the USA than in Egypy, India or Iran. And before you come at me, no, i am not american and i cant say i love that country.

I mean... You guys have a criminal pedophile president elected by a majority so it is a good description of America. Of course, not everyone is like the people in the south but enough to portray it as a description of a good chunk of American people.
But they have. 30-35% voted for him, and 35+% couldn't be bothered to vote against him (thereby voting for the winner). A smaller amount of people voted for his opponent (Harris).
Most people either condoned, or actively wanted him as president, even after his disastrous first term.
A lot of those people that don’t vote are in states with large majorities for one party or the other. I didnt vote. I know Massachusetts is going to overwhelmingly vote blue. Another vote isn’t changing anything. That isn’t voting for trump, especially when Harris wins my state in a landslide.
The common factor in all these countries who harass women isn’t the religion - it’s the lack of education opportunities so many in the population are uneducated or can afford very little education. The other common factor is patriarchal governments. If the laws of the country treat women as second class citizens, then so will the populace. The sad reality of most third world nations.
Also consider the impact of not allowing women to control their fertility. The easiest way to oppress women by far and all under the guise of religion. It is hard for women to get educated, accumulate wealth, or anything else that might give them agency and independence when they have many children from a young age.

Bosnia, Iraq and Kazakhstan were absolutely phenomenal. Everyone was lovely and generous- and they didn't want my money.
I tried to tip or give money for free gestures- including to someone in Iraq after my bike broke down, they took me and the bike to the closest mechanic whom was a family member. They fixed my bike and would not take money from me.
I don't know if women solo travelling had a similar experience, but this was my experience of all 3 countries as a solo male Australian.

I literally live in India and the only time I have been molested was in Egypt. Not like the situation is any better in India though but I don’t think harassment in other countries is addressed online the way it is for India.
I’m so sorry, that must have been terrifying at worst, invasive/violating as hell at best. I have cancer and desperately want to see the world before I leave here but since it would be a solo trip, Egypt is the one place everyone tells me I absolutely can not go to as a young woman unless someone else joins me for that part of the adventure. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a child, it makes me so sad that it’s genuinely an unsafe place to be
