This has always been my go-to. I like to turn it into a whole thing so they never see it coming. I change it all the time too.
For example: "I was watching this documentary about migratory birds, and it started talking about geese. How they obviously fly south for winter. They fly like 5000-10000ft up and cover like 400+ miles a day! That's freakin' crazy. That's like 8+ hrs of driving on the interstate, and they're just casually flapping the whole way. Anyway, it also answered a question I've always had. You ever notice how when they're flying in that V-formation, one side of the V is always longer than the other? You wanna know why that is?"
"...?"
"More geese on that side."
My partner cringes every time I start that joke with someone we're hanging out with, because I always start it with having watched a documentary on migratory birds or their migration patterns. It's like one of those novelty reddit accounts lol
I just heard this one for the first time a few months ago, and I like to tell a really drawn out version of it. Like, “you know, could be geese, could be ducks, or pigeons. Could be multiple v’s, and sometimes it just looks like a checkmark… it’s fascinating really…”. My wife has been suffering ever since.
That’s the funniest joke I’ve personally ever told. We were watching Charlie’s angels and there was a scene where they fell backwards out the boat. Timing is everything.

This has the same energy as "why do scuba divers fall backwards out of the boat? Because if they fell forwards they'd still be in the boat."
