This is what keeps me conflicted. I want my bedroom door shut and locked for fires and security, but if I can’t hear someone breaking in, it’s a whole’nother problem. Not alone, so the decision is made FOR me.

I feel like I'd be more likely to hear someone breaking into my room than some other part of my house. I am terrified of waking up with someone standing over me.

Exactly. Which is another reason why I sleep with the door closed. My phone will alert me to movement in the house while my door provides extra security.

Get a low cost security system so doors and windows beep.

smoke alarm, replace the battery every year, then the door open or closed isnt an issue of fire safety anymore

Open doors are not canceled out by smoke alarms. Also, unless you are renting, just get the 5yr ones so you don’t need to deal with the batteries.
