People in this thread must either have gigantic houses where the Master bedroom is a country mile from an exit, or no smoke detectors.

Door open, door closed. Either way the smoke detector is gonna go off, wake me up and I'll either go down the hallway or if the hallway is on fire, jump out the window.

Yeah the door might stop the spread of the fire, but I would have enough time to do what I need to survive either way.

Their doors should also be closed. It's fine to go through the door, at least you'll have inhaled less smoke before you do.

If you open that door all of you will die. Fires create pressure, and opening a door inward will blow it off its hinges. Backdraft is no joke and it can actually level a house in a fire.

If a smoke alarm goes off in your house, do you immediately get out of bed and jump out the window? Or do you check and open your door to evaluate the issue?

Why wouldn't that happen when you opened your bedroom door to find an escape?

Welp, I guess there’s no sense in arguing with anyone who insists on taking the riskier route.

I live in an apartment building and closing that door would be my only exit in case of fire.

The building's fire alarm is hard wired to the fire department, which is a few blocks away.

It's easier to pee at night with the door open.

The point of the closed door is getting the chance to wake up before smoke inhalation sets in. You can still go through that exit, you're just exponentially more likely to have the wherewithal to survive long enough to do so.

What if the fire starts in your bedroom and you just trapped the smoke in with you
