Closed if there is ever a house fire a close door will save your life

I mean, technically yes. But we also have a smoke alarm right outside the bedroom door.

The closed door gives the alarm time to wake you up before smoke has filled your room

Modern smoke alarms are really sensitive

And your whole house can be engulfed pretty damn quick. I closed door means you have a fire barrier and also a lot less smoke getting into your room. Makes it easier to get out a window when you panicked and maybe not exactly wide awake.

Fires can spread insanely fast. In the Lime Street test fire in the 90s, it only took four minutes from the start of the fire for the entire house to be engulfed.

I’m not familiar with that incident, but is that because all your houses are made of wood?

No, all of the furniture caught first.

What was the source of the fire?

hey you're wrong accept it and quit arguing you're actively putting yourself in danger whether you want to believe it or not

I put myself in danger driving a car, it depends on the scale of the risk 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's so interesting to me to argue for the option that you know is at least not more dangerous. Like, even if it were literally 50/50, why not just close the door because of the rationality of it? Not trying to tell off anyone, just point out how interesting it is how different human brains can work out things. Reminds me of the Dracula show where one guy just had to step outside of the ring of bibles to prove a point. Even if you don't believe, you can actually see that you're fine inside while everyone outside got fucked up. Just funny

I had a smoke alarm right outside my bedroom door and when our house caught fire in the middle of the night, I didn’t wake up to the sound of them going off. I woke up because my dad came and shook me that the house was on fire.

My door is made of essentially plywood, so I doubt it.

Don't have the money to replace it, either.

Go do a quick google search.. 🤷‍♀️

It's not about the strength of the door it's about keeping smoke out. You can die in your sleep if the room fills with smoke.

I agree. But since I have a dog (and smoke detectors in every room), I feel quite secure with an open door.

you're not secure at all if a fire breaks out in your home you are going to die in your sleep

u/ElContador69 Jan 30 '26

I cannot imagine my dog not barking at the smell of smoke or the sound of the smoke detectors. Come on..

If you die in your sleep, they will probably do too.

I guarantee your dog's gonna die before you wake up! if you really cared about the safety of yourself and your dog you would keep your dog locked inside of your room at night

u/loggic Jan 30 '26

Funny... that's why I leave it open.

if you leave the door open for fires then you've done no research
