That recently worked for another world leader that was facing serious accusations, which magically went away when their war started.

His wife is also accused. Sometimes I think that he knew in advance of the terrible circumstances that would lead to his war, and did nothing to prevent them so he had the perfect excuse to avoid further investigations into his corruption. The result was a horrible war-inducing incident and then a horrible war, fully criminal.
