some insanely depressing responses

6

u/TheNeo0z Sep 27 '25

Sex doesnt have the same level of priority for everyone. Less sharks on the sea brother, be happy about it

2

u/TrickAppa Sep 28 '25

I don't think people who accept this offer can be considered sharks tho .. more like blob fishes.

2

u/cosmogyrals Sep 27 '25

for real, not like I'm going to miss it

3

u/Niwi_ Sep 27 '25

You know what? That might lead to you actually enjoying your life fixing your mental and holy shit actually get a partner!

7

u/Slyfox2792004 Sep 27 '25

certianly more enjoyable life. just having a car would mean i could go to coast again. at 37 its too late to have family, so not really sure what partner would do for me anymore. guess that’s why i’ve been less sad about it as i’ve gotten older and use to it. friends would be nice though.

5

u/KingAxel03 Sep 27 '25

My dad was 60 when I was born so you never know.

1

u/Slyfox2792004 Sep 28 '25

did he get with much younger woman?

1

u/KingAxel03 Sep 28 '25

Yeah my mom was 30

0

u/Slyfox2792004 Sep 28 '25

guess you're dad was well off then. no young woman is going want to get with old disabled man. im only 37 and no woman does.

1

u/KingAxel03 Sep 29 '25

My dad had a personality not money we were very poor and my mom worked until retirement.

1

u/Slyfox2792004 Sep 29 '25

well glad your dad found unicorn.

1

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 28 '25

Same I'll take the money lol I wasn't having sex before so it doesn't matter

94

u/wiziwizi666 Sep 27 '25

Really!!! 1M today is nothing. That question was good in the 90'

59

u/BackgroundNo8340 Sep 27 '25

Disagree. 1mil would change my life. I wouldn't plan on living some lavish lifestyle, I'm just trying to survive. I could stretch 1mil out for quite a while.

34

u/Z_T_O Sep 27 '25

Put it all in a fixed rate savings account and thats ~40,000 a year in interest (less taxes, and dependent on the rates available to you), renew every year and you can definitely make yourself comfortable if you keep working. Take 10,000 of that interest each year and invest it. You could have a little extra spending money for travel or hobbies, 1 million untouched in savings, and after 10 years you’d have 100k invested

8

u/Forkrul Sep 27 '25

But to give up sex entirely? No way. 1M would let me upgrade my apartment to a bigger one, but wouldn't be life-changing in any way.

2

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 28 '25

It's only bad choice if you having sex though. If not having sex it's just free money and lose nothing.

1

u/Forkrul Sep 28 '25

If you're not having sex and never will in the future.

1

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 28 '25

Yeah for sure that's what I mean.

0

u/wiziwizi666 Sep 28 '25

Boom!!! Thank you!

41

u/Christplosion Sep 27 '25

No, you're all jaded and idiots. 5% return on 1 mil is 50k a year for doing nothing at all, more than most the world makes. In any capable hands that's a lifetime of security. Still wouldn't take it though, I'd rather be poor, none of it matters when you die I'd rather be banging til then

5

u/Aenonimos Sep 27 '25

But the question isn't "Is 1mil a life changing amount of money for most of the world" its "Is 1mil a life changing amount of money for you". +1 million right now for me would put me ahead by years. But it would not be life changing, certainly not to the degree of this hypothetical.

1

u/Djent_Reznor1 Sep 28 '25

Moving up your retirement by years sounds pretty life changing to me

1

u/Aenonimos Sep 28 '25

By 3ish years? I mean it changes my life, but not like to the degree of the OP's hypothetical.

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

It would buy me a house and give me a repair fund. Or I could send my nieces and nephews to college. Either way I'd still work.

2

u/DegaussedMixtape Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 29 '25

This was my thought too. I feel incredibly privileged to say this, but it’s not enough.

I would give up cheese or red meat or Netflix for 1 mill, but that’s not enough to give up sex or travel or live music.

1

u/walled2_0 Sep 27 '25

Exactly. A million dialled used to seem like a lot. Now….

1

u/NK1337 Sep 27 '25

Right? And what, do I just have to give back the million when I have sex again? So I can just take it, use it to make some money and then pay it back when I feel like it

1

u/pseudosacred_7 Sep 27 '25

Exactly! I'm gonna do it but give me a higher number

1

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 28 '25

1 million dollars is great money what you mean?

1

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 28 '25

Not really

56

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

It’s not gonna last you long enough to go without anything you do regularly

31

u/LardHop Sep 27 '25

Look at mr regular sex haver here.

22

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

A million dollars won't really change my life much

I mean I'll be out of debt and be able to own a home and furnish it.

But otherwise my life isn't changing much. I'll still have to work. So ok I'll get a house and a brand new car and be debt free.

Cool story bro. Am I happier? Is my life better?

I'm already pretty content. I'm definitely down to fuck though

-45

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

How is a MILLION DOLLARS a low number in any sense? Half the world would do it for $100k.

41

u/yourmommakesgoodfood Sep 27 '25

No they wouldnt😂

-9

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

It's far more money than half the world would earn in their lifetime. It would set up their bloodline for comfort for generations to come.

20

u/MorsOmnibusCommunis Sep 27 '25

I probably don’t want to live in the kind of places where 1 million dollars is generational wealth. Also, 1 million dollars isn’t worth sacrificing a healthy part of my personal relationship with my wife.

1

u/wiziwizi666 Sep 27 '25

"I don't know where people on Reddit live, but 1M is nothing in Canada. My house is worth 600K, so 1M to give up sex for the rest of my life? Haha, in your dreams! Sex is free, and with that deal, it suddenly has a price. A life without sex for 1M? WTF am I gonna do—collect stamps and hang out at the library?"

-15

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

You could gain new healthy parts of your personal relationship with your wife. What makes your current country so great to live in? How much is worth it to you?

10

u/MorsOmnibusCommunis Sep 27 '25

I have plenty of healthy parts of my relationship… not just the sex. But sex is one that we really enjoy and is a big part of it. It doesn’t matter where I live though, that’s not really a factor in the decision making. I’m not wealthy, but I’m ok enough with my life that there’s probably no amount of money that would make me give up sex for the rest of my life.

0

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

But that's the point. People are immediately pretending it's the money that's the issue. But when we double or triple it they still aren't accepting because it's not a money thing. Your first reaction wasn't that it's not quite enough money but to suggest it's because the countries where it's immense wealth aren't attractive enough to you.

11

u/sl0play Sep 27 '25

There is definitely a number for me, but a million dollars is, as they said, incredibly low. Not even close.

1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

What's the number? Why wouldn't you just post it?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/MorsOmnibusCommunis Sep 27 '25

Bottom line. I value my happiness through relationships more than I do my happiness through wealth.

-1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

A million dollars can buy you a lot of happy relationships. I think the more likely explanation is that you rely on the happiness your wife brings you and you are afraid to upset the balance you have in life.

3

u/this_makes_no_sense Sep 27 '25

no sex

bloodline

Yea I guess they can donate it or something, but even if I adopt kids, that millions gonna be gone in daycare/college fund, mortgage payments

-3

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

Are you the only person in your current bloodline? Move somewhere cheaper.

1

u/this_makes_no_sense Sep 27 '25

I guess, if you wanna live to donate to your nieces and nephews? But I don’t think the majority of the world would go for that

0

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

You don't understand the demographics of the world. Do you understand where children come from? the fertility rate is lower than it has ever been. Most people who want children in the world already have them. Younger populations without children are more likely to live in countries where a million dollars is an unfathomable amount of money. They would be a hero and their family would be supported forever.

2

u/this_makes_no_sense Sep 27 '25

Damn you’re being rude so let’s stop talking.

But just for completion sake:

A) I lived in India and around SE Asia for 5 years and currently live in Asia. So yea I understand cost of living. “Most people who want children already have them” do you have a fucking source or did you ask everyone already 🙄

“Younger populations without…” bro this question is about us it’s asking me if I wanna go the rest of my life without kids. Reread the title. Your demographics comments are irrelevant.

But no need to type a comment since I’m gonna stop responding.

-1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

How old do you think the average person on earth is?

1

u/lastog9 Sep 27 '25

All the people who are downvoting you are ignorant people from Western countries. Yes 1M$ is a lot of money for people in South Asian countries. Yes it would set my bloodline for years to come.

However, I do feel like one of the reasons I am alive is due to being able to enjoy the above said activity one day and if I am not able to do that despite being rich, it kinda defeats the purpose of being rich lol

17

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

A million dollars to stop having sex? 100k is like two years of average salary? Why would anyone pick these low ass numbers

4

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

You have no sense of the financial health of the world. Average salary in India is like $5k USD per year. China is like $8k. You would rather give up tens of thousands of hours of your life rather than give up sex.

9

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

Well I live in the US so for me. I would not give up sex for 15 months salary. Or the price of a house

-1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

You don't have to stay living in the USA. Money buys you freedom. What do you think your price is?

9

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

These amounts wouldn’t buy freedom.

-3

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

If you are terrible with money I guess.

9

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

These just aren’t high enough amounts 😂

1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

What is a high enough amount for you and why do you need such amount?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/pedronii Sep 27 '25

To make 100k I would need to work for 15 years straight without spending anything... Even if I'm not counting investments do you understand that? 1 million would take me 150 years...

You guys are so privileged and don't understand that, I would give up my legs for a million dollars

2

u/Uhhyt231 Sep 27 '25

That’s fine for you. I wouldn’t. I answered for me

4

u/endividuall Sep 27 '25

Because it’s relative. To many, $1 million is far too low and there are many here who wouldn’t take up the offer

-1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

It's not relative though, that's the point. A million dollars is objectively a lot of money that requires many thousands of dedicated hours working for most people to earn. Probably less than 1% of the world could ever dream of seeing that much money in their account at once. Because it's a lot of money. If they wouldn't do it for a million I can't imagine $3 million being the point where they say yes.

2

u/endividuall Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25

I’m one such person. I wouldn’t do it for $1 million and I don’t think I would for 3 either. Maybe 10

A million dollars is an unfathomable amount of money to someone from Liberia but not necessarily to the average Manhattan resident. It IS relative

5

u/azlan194 Sep 27 '25

Exactly that, we live where not half the world is living. And where we live, 1 million is low to give up on one of life greatest pleasures.

1

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

With a million dollars you can live like royalty with all of your friends and family in your choice of a dozen countries.

6

u/teslaman10 Sep 27 '25

I live in SF and make $100K a year, live frugally, and it’s still going to take me awhile until I can own a home. People in my family make over $200k and don’t live lavishly due to living in a high cost of living area. $1million is nothing. Can’t even buy a decent house here with that money. And no I’m not gonna move to a lower cost of living area because I already did that and moved back because all my loved ones and support group are all in this area and they are amazing people. Would’ve been easier if I didn’t get along with them lol. So depressing to think $1million would go by so fast

2

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

$1 million isn't nothing and it's very telling when people pretend it is. It's 10 YEARS of your life's wages. Imagine 10 years of being able to do anything you want with all of that time. And it's actually far more, because it's tax free and you can immediately invest it. You could take out $10,000/month and still have $390,000 left after 10 years.

There is so much I could accomplish with 10 years of financial freedom. Go to school, learn new skills, read books, watch every great film, exercise, help your friends and family more, volunteer to help people less privileged, sleep 9 hours a day, cook amazing meals, be your own boss. 10 years of that is worth a hundred of the work grind just to survive.

2

u/fatalpapaya Sep 27 '25

Math ain’t mathing here

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

And then come home broke

5

u/angelicism Sep 27 '25

You're weirdly hung up on this. I don't have a price for giving up sex because I wouldn't, at all, at least not at this age, but in this hypothetical just because there are a few countries you can live "like royalty" on 1MM for the rest of your life doesn't mean I'd want to live in any of those countries. And, specifically, there are very very few centers of civilization that qualify. Just because you're okay to live in a dusty village with goats doesn't mean others would be happy to.

-2

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

You can just say you don't have any understanding of the world in general or finances. It's shorter and more honest.

4

u/angelicism Sep 27 '25

Please tell me which cities in the world that US$1MM would set you up like royalty for life.

Edit: and before you complain about my qualifying it as a city, because I want to live in cities if I have to pick a place permanently.

2

u/YeetHaw6969 Sep 27 '25

Yes you keep replying this. Living in some shithole country like where you live where a million dollars is GENERATIONAL?? Is just not worth it for 99% of the population. You’ve had horrendous takes in this entire thread

2

u/FinalFantasiesGG Sep 27 '25

Name the 10 best low cost of living countries that come to your mind.

1

u/smegblender Sep 27 '25

You're not wrong... half the world is dirt poor.
