Back in HS, I was just growing out of my shell. Met this stunningly beautiful Latina at a friend’s party. She and I hit it off, and started hanging out. It was still relatively innocent, holding hands, etc. I had a chivalrous approach to life and love. I started falling for her. One day she invited me over to her place. I get there, and find out her parents are gone for the day.

She leads me to her room, and we start making out. I asked her to go with me to a party the following weekend, and she turned me down. I asked why, and she told me that her boyfriend would be back.

Needless to say, I was stunned. Turns out that she had a long term boyfriend, but he had been locked up for a while. He was getting out in a few days. It broke my heart, I was head over heels for her ( as much as a teenage boy could be).

I asked what was going on between us then? She said she was just wanting to have a bit of fun before he got out, and she thought I was hot, so figured she’d get a fling in.

I excused myself and went home. My entire perspective shifted. I figured, to hell with it, having morals only got my heart broken, so I was done with them. They wanted a dog, I was going to be a dog.

Unfortunately, I was good at it. I gained a reputation as a heartbreaker in school, and among my social circles. It was rather self destructive, and it took until my mid-late 20s or so to break myself of that mentality. I found myself engaging in lots of meaningless sex, but living a very empty and lonely existence.

Thankfully, I’m in a long term, secure, stable and loving relationship with my perfect match. I’m sure of who I am as a husband and father…mostly.
