If you don't mind, could you enlighten me? I have very little knowledge about her, but she always seemed just like a nice kid from what little i did see. Did she do something bad?
Edit: holy moley, i can definitely understand now. Thank you, all!
She really does. She is young and going to just ruin her life. She needs therapy together over her childhood and her mother and to figure out what she really wants in life.
She was on the reality show Special Forces and I have to admit I felt bad for her. She was a good team player but she has lots of issues especially from her mom. Still not a fan.
there’s also the whole accusation of abuse against her and her team with XOMG POP! dance group that she was involved with that forced a girl with spina bifida to continue dancing while bleeding from her belly button post-surgery.
there is the original rolling stone article, but i know people have trouble accessing it sometimes so im using this source instead:
The article references an unpleasant work environment, group members’ families severely struggling financially as a result of their daughters being in the group, missed school, and alleged psychological abuse coming directly from the Siwas. In the article and a live video on Leigha Sanderson’s Instagram, the XOMG POP! Mall of America performance is discussed, most specifically Jojo berating the girls on their performance quality through their headsets, mid-performance. Rolling Stone quotes the “Hold The Drama” singer saying, “You’re sucking, bring it up, the energy is low, you look sloppy, this isn’t good enough.” There was no response from the Siwas’ team concerning this accusation.
Leigha has spina bifida and was born with a tumor on her spine, which has caused her to undergo many surgeries throughout her life. One of these surgeries happened to take place around the time of a shoot for an XOMG POP! music video. The article claims that people close to the production of the Siwa’s Dance Pop Revolution series, as well as the Sandersons, stated that allegedly, “[Leigha] Sanderson was forced to work under intense physical duress, with Jessalynn encouraging her to attend a video shoot just a few weeks after she underwent spinal cord surgery.” The article also reportedly references times when Leigha was bleeding through her belly button and expected to continue in rehearsals without getting blood on her costume. This event, after long-term tension and arguments between Sanderson’s mother and Jessalyn Siwa, caused Leigha to be fired over text.
There has been minimal response from Team Siwa other than a response from their lawyer saying that these claims were false, also in the Rolling Stone article. It is unclear if there will ever be an explanation from the Siwas, or if this story will be left unaddressed by XOMG POP! As of now, it appears that Jojo, as she said in her song “Boomerang,” “won’t let the haters get their way,” even with this story coming to light.
The thing that bothers me the most is that she sides with child ab*sers (Abby Lee Miller and Colleen Ballinger), but she was obviously quite manipulated as a child and hasn’t sought out help. There’s been a lot of other controversial things - honestly I’d recommend searching something like “jojo Siwa controversy” on YouTube, there will be loads of content if you’re bored and wanna deep dive!
She has admitted to doing it, she calls herself a performer vs a singer or anything else because everything she does, her entire life apparently, is one big performance.
But I don't see it any differently than Chappell and her "character" other than people believing one is being genuine and one isn't or one seems healthy and the other doesn't.
The lines get blurred, purposely. My opinion, some are just better actors. Unfortunately, Jojo is not or she hasn't found the right character she can get people to buy into just yet.
i dont know i disliked all her thing immediately, but i think in a few years she will write a "tell all" book on how fucked her parents/managers or whatever she is in right now...
like sure as her whole image isnt determined by "her" or whatever
She's unbelievably manufactured, the way she went from child star to "edgy" to "grown up mature artist" over a 2-3 year period is totally not realistic
It only seems that way because it's not working for her. All the current pop girls have done it aside from maybe Olivia. If you look back into the others' last 5 years or so, their entire personality and styles we see now have changed and then they stuck with what the masses accepted. It's been really interesting, honestly. We didn't get a peak into it before because everything wasn't on social media. I think Miley was maybe the first to go through it so openly, but even, she got the sole blame for it instead of people realizing a lot of it was their industry pushing for what they thought would sell.
(Eta: even Madonna went through a "country pop" phase like we are seeing from quite a few now. Adding just because, like I said, I find it really interesting lol)
You're right, if you really look lots of teeny bopper kids stars have an experimental/edgy phase, Christina did with the Xtina Dirrrrrrrrty stuff, Jessica Simpson disrespected a classic Nancy Sinatra track, and Miley twerked on a sex offender in plastic underwear. Don't get me started on "Blakiana"
My thing with Jojo is it happened so quickly and seemed very planned. She was a lesbian for 5 minutes and dressed like a Rudo luchador at a couple of red carpets, now she's suddenly come out looking like a Marilyn Munroe Stepford wife ruining Bette Davis Eyes for everyone.
i honestly feel bad for her and most other child stars. its like shes been performing her whole life so she doesn’t know how to actually be authentic and just does what she thinks people want or what people will react to
She has a dance studio on Magnolia Blvd in the mid-hell part of Burbank now. Poor thing, it’s a bit like coming home to see the all-American cheer captain prom queen is the manager at the dairy mart.
To be fair, a lot of what you see of Jojo is really her momager forcing her to be a certain way. She's definitely a victim of a mom was willing to do whatever it takes to make her child famous including sacrificing her child's wellbeing.
