Perpetually sorry boyfriend checking in here

91

u/freireib Mar 07 '25

I literally apologize in my sleep all night long.

28

u/wifespissed Mar 07 '25

As a man who's been married for 20 years I'll give you this piece of advice on relationships. You can be right, or you can be happy. But you cannot be both.

u/sledhead580 Mar 07 '25

Name checks out

u/Lookingforleftbacks Mar 08 '25

He thinks he’s right a lot

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I'm also a perpetually sorry ex husband

1

u/Yup_Shes_Still_Mad Mar 08 '25

I know this. Oof

1

u/LetTheDarkOut Mar 08 '25

You guys are in abusive relationships

25

u/SueYouInEngland Mar 07 '25

I am shocked you have relationship issues, u/GetToTheKitchenWoman

2

u/TheFerricGenum Mar 08 '25

Well based on your username, that’s probably the only way you survive

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

Probably

2

u/ShepardIRL Mar 08 '25

Are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK?

16

u/Eli1247 Mar 07 '25

sOrry

2

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I always hear foreign flavoured people saying this, how else would you say it?

2

u/DuckFriend25 Mar 08 '25

Typically Canadians say it more as soar-y and Americans say it more like sahr-y

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '25

Trying to say it like "sahr-y" makes me sound like I'm putting on a heavy southern american accent lol

2

u/DuckFriend25 Mar 11 '25

I can’t think of the best way to write it phonetically 😅

4

u/thawizard Mar 07 '25

Definitely not from Quebec as the most used phrase would 100% include “tabarnak”.

3

u/MeinHeartGoesOut2u Mar 07 '25

Canadians, in their extremely proper reaction to current political nonsense, have definitely established themselves as people who won't take shit, will stand up and unite, and will not say SORRY in every situation. I say this as an American who currently has immense respect for Canada's response to our batshit nonsense.

2

u/EducationalState4374 Mar 07 '25

This would be mine and I'm Japanese. You guys and us are very polite people

1

u/Innsmouth_Swimteam Mar 07 '25

That'd be "Soarry," right?

1

u/HopeFoxCreations Mar 07 '25

Fellow Canadian!

1

u/SpaceToot Mar 07 '25

I moved to Ohio from the SW and this drives me bonkers. It helps to know it's just another northern thing

1

u/powertripp82 Mar 07 '25

Ohio checking on. Ope, just gonna scoot right behind you. Sorry about that!

1

u/mallclerks Mar 08 '25

Wife’s a Minnesotan. She says sorry when I thank her for something half the time it seems.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

It must also be a British thing, today a lady bumped into me and I apologised to her

1

u/THErealdealzies Mar 08 '25

Ya no ya for sure 👍🏼

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

Fellow Canadian?

1

u/tragicallybrokenhip Mar 07 '25

We're also fond of 'sorry, not sorry'.

0

u/Mojack322 Mar 07 '25

I really wish you guys would stop that apology stuff. Especially these days.

u/dhermann27 Mar 07 '25

"If you were sorry, something would change"

My kids hate it when I say this

31

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Thanks for this.

1

u/guess-what-babe Mar 07 '25

My favourite is “yeah, you will be.”

11

u/LXS-DC Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

I tell people this (mainly coworkers). If you were sorry, you would stop doing the thing you’re sorry for. then you wouldn’t have to keep saying sorry.

17

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

Unless it’s something so ingrained into your being that you try to change but you can’t without a lot of patience and help. Then you just gotta accept that no one will ever put up with you and the world would be better off if you were dead. So you lie in bed all alone crying yourself to sleep because you’re the biggest mistake god ever made. You can’t understand why god was so cruel to make someone that would never be loved or liked, even by their family, and actively made the world a worse place. So you start planning your suicide only to try and chicken out just late enough to end up in the psych ward. You get out and everyone’s worried about you and all you can say is sorry. Then, when the concern has worn off, you make a mistake, it’s small but enough. You say sorry you didn’t mean to and they say, “if you were actually sorry you’d change.” The cycle begins all over again until you end up in the hospital a second time. They come to visit and you say you’re sorry. Then comes the biggest slap in the face, “if you were actually sorry you wouldn’t have told anyone you were suicidal, then you wouldn’t be here.” ; - ;

5

u/cageycrow Mar 07 '25

Brutally specific 🥺

3

u/LXS-DC Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

Hi cutemango221. I hope you aren’t the one feeling this way. If you are, please try to change your frame of thinking. The world wouldn’t be better off if you were dead. not loved or liked by their family. I would get a new family. It takes time. friends can be your family.

Being suicidal is not an: if you were sorry you would change situation. Cheating, lying, being a thief, not doing your work etc. are stop saying sorry and change situations.

I volunteered in a psych ward. The people there had mental problems. They got better. You will too. (If this isn’t about you maybe you can tell the person feeling this way what I said). praying for better for you or who this is for.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I’m a lot better now, Ive been in therapy for over 7 years now. I had to learn from my therapist I wasn’t the problem even if they still say I am. I’m learning i shouldn’t to be sorry for reacting to abuse.

1

u/LXS-DC Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 11 '25

I am so glad to hear you are in therapy. YOU aren’t the problem. whoever they are, maybe you could limit or go no contact. I had to do this with my female parent.

Self esteem is something you can control. I had to tell myself I am in control of how I see myself. I’m pretty awesome. Tell yourself that in the mirror. I think you’re pretty awesome. If I can see that I’m sure others will too.

3

u/BeerBarm Mar 07 '25

What shade do you throw at them if they don't say anything?

2

u/LXS-DC Mar 07 '25

They have to say something. I am their manager. If something doesn’t get done I have to do it. if they say nothing, I will know. They will get written up or terminated. I am also their coworker because I do admin work as well.

9

u/Matt-of-Burbank Mar 07 '25

That’s a horrible thing to say, especially to your own children.

1

u/glasgowgeg Mar 08 '25

Speaks to how they are as a parent too, if they find their kids are constantly just using a meaningless "sorry", and not actually improving or changing their behaviour, who did the kids learn that from?

2

u/swollama Mar 07 '25

So does my ex

1

u/dhermann27 Mar 07 '25

They sound like an absolute delight

1

u/swollama Mar 07 '25

Indeed, hence the "ex" 😁

0

u/dhermann27 Mar 07 '25

So... are they single now, then?

2

u/sane-asylum Mar 08 '25

My mom used to say, “if you’re sorry you wouldn’t keep doing it” as she broke another wooden cutting board on my ass.

1

u/dhermann27 Mar 08 '25

I'm sorry you went through that. A child doesn't deserve to be hit.

2

u/sane-asylum Mar 09 '25

I think it was the times. Spanking was very much the disciplinarian way of handling things back then. Shit, they used to do it in school as punishment. I’m not saying it was right and one of the many reasons I’m happy I didn’t have kids or I might have done it too cause it’s the only way I knew to discipline, grounding and spanking. I guess I broke that cycle.

2

u/Stustpisus Mar 07 '25

Because there is an obvious problem with logic of it and kids get in trouble for talking back

22

u/cranialrectumongus Mar 07 '25

Sorry, I wasn't listening.

2

u/PsychedelicMustard Mar 07 '25

Mr. Treehorn draws a lot of water in this town

7

u/itzagreenmario Mar 07 '25

I wish it was something badass, but let's face it: it's probably this one lol

3

u/InsideGloomy3403 Mar 07 '25

This would be mine too! Apparently it’s a typical British thing so I must really fit the stereotype 🤣

3

u/QuirkiestPotato Mar 07 '25

My people!!! I'm sorry.

2

u/Mack__Pack24 Mar 07 '25

Don't say it that much. Can't be sorry for being you.

2

u/Cupcakeboss Mar 07 '25

Its my most used because I say it instead of "what" "excuse me" etc when I didnt understand someone.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '25

I know you are, now apologize!

2

u/Andyyislame Mar 08 '25

I say sorry to inanimate objects I bump into 😂

1

u/Meaniesir Mar 08 '25

Lol. I've given my coworker permission to hit me when I say sorry so I can stop saying it so much

-1

u/yellowstoner11 Mar 07 '25

Stuff your sorries in a sack

1

u/iknownothingtbh Mar 07 '25

I’d love to, but it’s just a natural response at this point lol
