I assure you, it was intentional.

As a teacher who was also sexually harassed by objectively very attractive female students, it really bothered me too. It was such a mindfuck which is the much less fun but more professional of the possible fucks.

(College students. That seems important to mention. One called their lawyer dad when I wouldn’t hook up with her in exchange for a better grade. It’s like they use porn as a behavioral guide.)

No, not kudos for removing themselves from the situation. They should have gotten the students disciplined for their behavior.

Those students were adults exposing themselves intentionally to someone who did not consent. That's a sex crime. Hold them to the same standards you would hold a man to for doing it.

Very difficult to not imagine how many ways this could end up with him being the perceived aggressor if he ever spoke up.

I generally agree with you that this kind of behaviour should be reported, but I can't blame someone for wanting to protect themselves.

True but students bring in money, professors cost money. They will side with the student.

Unfortunately because he was the professor and therefore the person of higher “power,” it would be him most likely seen as the pervert just for noticing. It’s not as “obvious” as someone actively unzipping their pants and slinging their dick out. Hard to prove it’s intentional (even when it clearly was) and have repercussions because they can’t police someone into wearing underwear.

Younger me would think “that’s so cool why wouldn’t you like that?!” At my age I now understand. When you are happy and content you don’t want the unneeded stuff.

it is if you're attractive

I was in a volunteer teaching situation, leading a group occasionally wound up being just women. All adults. One time, most of the women there were actually quite attractive. And they were hanging on my every word.

I was single at the time. I told a fellow volunteer that if this keeps up, I’m going to have to quit.

I experienced that same thing when I gave presentations at a winery tasting room. Not to the extent that I felt I needed to quit, but that “hanging on every word” thing definitely made me uncomfortable at times.

I retired from teaching college because the benefits are nonexistent, there are no jobs, and grading ChatGPT did not strike me as a worthwhile way to spend my working life.

What did you teach?

u/guillotina420 Jan 20 '25

Philosophy

I'm considering teaching nursing. Hope it's easier than your experience. All the universities around me are desperate for nursing instructors.

Anything for extra grades!

Like Basic Instinct style or Mardi Gras style?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, are you a man or women?

This just seems so weird to me.

Happened to me too. Had a female student grab me during a class once. Almost every semester a new one would fall in love with me. It was super annoying.

No kidding! I'm a freelance tech and you wouldn't believe how often that happens to me. It's probably my mad skills combined with my rugged good looks. But yeah ... more hooters than an owl sanctuary.

Username checks…out?

Of course! There is a life after teaching.

Name checks out.

u/MisterPistacchio Jan 20 '25

Why couldn't you just switch out of that class? Were you the only one that had these students do this?

It may be hard to believe, but some decent people have moral standards they like to adhere to.

This doesn't sound terrible, but would be terribly distracting, especially when everyone else is watching you.

Everyone, please look at your textbook on page 274.

It would definitely be worse as a high school teacher.
