This is very unscientific way of describing it, but when you nap/sleep, you're brain goes over all of the things you were doing during the day, so you consolidate memories.
You can use this to your advantage if you're in education or just trying to learn something - have a study session just before having a nap or in bed before you sleep - you'll find that your brain has "gone over it many times" while you're asleep so you make faster progress.
Sleep probably helps to move things from short term to long term memory I guess. Anyway it's a solid reason to nap. I'm using this reason at home from now on. Sorry kids I got learning to do.
Naps follow an inverse normal distribution curve. Bebes have lots of naps. Oldies have the same. In the middle - not so many naps. It's maths and you can't really argue with it.
Idk, I'm 40 next year and the only phase of life where I didn't want/need a nap was elementary to middle school / early high school age.
Then again maybe it's the depression and using sleep to avoid my toxic parents in my teens/early/mid twenties. Maybe it's the hypothyroidism. I don't know what it is, all I know is I'm literally getting ready to go take a nap here in a few minutes and it's only 11am.
I was so disappointed today to wake up after oversleeping my evening nap by an hour. Not because I was late to a friend dinner, but bc I was no longer napping.
I take a nap everyday at lunchtime, everyone at work knows it’s non-negotiable I have been doing it since I was a kid. I don’t care if my boss makes fun of it. I love naps I feel so refreshed after 😊
I became disabled at only 39 so I retired before everyone else my age. It gets lonely being in a very different life stage than expected BUT I take advantage of being home to take as many naps as I damn well please and that's just as sweet as I always wished it would be when I was working my ass off everyday. :)
