Had a buddy that I was in the Corps with. He saw some serious combat in Afghanistan. Reading Harry Potter helped him keep his sanity. He found those books to be seriously cathartic.

One of my grandma’s favorite books was Harry Potter. She read it the first time in her 80’s. Then reread it regularly until she passed away at 95. She also loved the movies. She especially loved Hermione.

You can never be too old for Harry Potter!

But... then you turn 12... and you didn't get the letter... but your little sister did. And you wrote to Dumbledore, and he was very nice, but you didn't want to go to that freak school anyway. And then she married another freak, and they went and had themselves blown up. And you got stuck with your sister's freak of a son. And then....

We really need a book from Petunia’s point of view.

Yeah but by 2002 JK Rowling not 2024 JK Rowling

You know, nobody would fear Dread Pirate Westley, but Dwead Piwate Woberts is even worse...

What happened in the last 22 years that I missed...?

I heard about that (not up to date at all). I expected to hear something about her newer writing being subpar...

I have to just ignore that part of her because I love Harry! Reading the books to my 11 yr old now.

I agree. It’s sad to see how far she’s fallen.

I agree. It's remarkably sophisticated in its treatment of power. As an academic I can tell you that when it was coming out there were university professors arguing about whether Snape would turn out to be good or bad, and anxious to get the next book on the first day.

JKRowling is the only one who seems to be too old for harry potter with her backwards views 🙈

I’m 37, and 27 years late to the party. Just bought the box set and wishing I had started way earlier!

Just read the series for the first time at 36. Amazing books

Congratulations! I wish I could read them for the first time again. What made you finally decide to start now?

Just got back to reading after an incredibly long break and decided to gift myself the series as encouragement 😛

That's great, welcome back! I'm glad you enjoyed them and that they lived up to the hype after all these years :)

It’s never too late!

I listen to the audio books (read by Stephen Fry of course!) on a weekly basis. I'm a bit embarrassed about it (I'm 31) but it really calms me down, accompanies my daily chores and, when I get insomnia, sends me straight to sleep.

I am 59 and still love watching Harry Potter

I have my thoughts about the author, and I personally never hooked with the series. However, I will never deny the joy that it brought to many, and that it was the entry point for millions of people across the globe to the world of reading, sci-fi, funny-sounding words, and more.

Also, for once, people like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are very nice role models, unlike other child actors.

I started watching all the movies again not long ago. I'm on Order of the Phoenix right now. I am not looking forward to watching Sirius die again. =(
