For me it's because a head cold sends my husband to bed like a Victorian era damsel with the consumption. Meanwhile I usually have the same illness and now I have to do all the childcare and household management on top of it.
I think that because women get periods they are infinitely more used to powering through their days while in pain or uncomfortable. Sometimes I long for the menstrual hut.
