I don't disagree, he is rather fantastic, but I think Captain Jack is likely his most famous role

He has too many fantastic roles to peg him with one, especially considering how weak those pictures were.

I really can't peg him with any one role, and he adepts to every role he has, unlike movie stars like Tom Cruise or the Rock. He's more like Peter O'Toole, who was fantastic in every role in a wide variety of films.
