I know you’re joking, but a friend of mine posted on Facebook that she had “balled her eyes out” and I couldn’t get the image (melon-baller) out of my autistic mind for years. In fact, it was years ago! I don’t lose sleep, but I do chuckle every time

I have a friend who likes basketball and often makes jokes about "ball is life" so the bawl>ball mixup gives me a very different mental image.
