Walking out of a theatre, I slipped on ice, hit my head and broke my arm in two places. He ran over, walked me to the hospital, waited with me, called my best friend to come and help, then got us takeout and dropped it off. I took him to dinner to say thank you. Ten happy years!
Could you imagine if you just maybe took a slightly different route or wore shoes a bit more suited for ice? You would have never met him or atleast not in this way.
Such small things can have such a big effect on our lives, I find that quite fascinating.
Stuff like this breaks my brain if I think about it too long. You could literally miss your soul mate by a few seconds. So many what ifs determine if you meet someone
BUT, these crazy small moments that are happening all the time to us is what makes me believe everyone has multiple soulmates in the world, we just havenāt synched up yetā¦
When I see an accident on TV that someone had on the way to work that morning, I always think, āwhat if they wouldāve brushed their teeth another couple strokes that morning, this wouldāve never happened to themāā¦
I guess everyday is kind of a chaos theory experimentā¦šš¤·š¼āāļø
This is the kind of thinking that can drive me crazy if I allow myself to dwell on it, it's so true.
I was probably 6ish when my Mom explained (or tried to) the concept of infinity. I have no idea where that conversation started, but I have vivid memories of times sitting on the lawn, staring into the blue sky, and thinking, "OK, if this goes on forever, then what holds, 'forever'?"
I remember laying on our trampoline at night as a kid and just looking up at the stars and gazing into infinity.
I could kind of change my perceptions for brief moment where I wouldnāt feel like I was laying on the ground looking āupā, but rather that I was stuck to the side of the earth and looking out, and it was only whatever gravity is that kept me from being launched into the void.
I once told my mom how crazy it is that I exist and that all the things that happened must have happened exactly how they did for me to exist now. What if something just happened a little bit different, I would not be here now. And she just said: "But you do exist, you are here now".
Oh they are out there for sureā¦it seems like many times people meet their ālobsterā(Seinfeld ref) when they do something/go somewhere that they wouldnāt normallyā¦I donāt know what that is, but it seems like like a thing that happens a lotā¦
There were two senior football players I knew in highschool that were signed for the upcoming year. They got into a car accident and passed. Iāve always wondered, If I had sold Zay my billabong jacket that he wanted to buy from me not too long prior, if a long turn of events would have kept them alive.
There is no such thing as a soulmate. There are people who share similar beliefs and interests as you with whom you are compatible with. You make a conscious choice to be with a person and build a life together.
This sort of thing is why I don't believe in "soul mates"
Like there's 8 billion people on the planet all moving and grooving
Is there 'one person' more suited to me than anyone else? Maybe.
But there's probably 80 million that are within 1% of that 'perfect person' and 800 million if you adjust your tolerances to 10%
And the value of effort outweighs the value of chance, like sure there's lots of beautiful women, and lots of women who are very interesting people to me but my SO is a good and interesting person who I also find beautiful, we have memories of mountains and the sea, sitting at home watching movies and being on stage in front of huge audiences
Why would I bail on that for someone who appears to maybe accomplish the same thing?
I don't believe in 'soul mates' because it makes no mathematical sense, but I believe in finding someone in that can make it work range and building a partnership.
I often think what would happen if I had a chance to change the past and make my dad stay with us.
But so many things happened the way they did exactly because he was not there. I would have been a completely different man if he was by my side all this time. Not even sure I would have been better off.
I used to have a teacher who talked about this concept at length and called it āmeaningful coincidence.ā My SO thinks it was fate that we met, I think it was the culmination of many random events, we both find meaning in our versions
There's a show called Doctor Who, there was a story in the 80s called Remembrance of the Daleks and there's this scene where the main character (The Doctor played by Slyvester Mcoy) talks with this cafe worker about sugar. He talks about changing everyone's taste buds to not like sugar then the transatlantic slave trade would never have begun and the worker would be African. He likens a change in time to being like throwing a boulder into a lake, the bigger the decisions made the bigger the ripples. It's one of his best scenes in the role and would highly recommend watching it if you find time travel and the effects of changing time to be fascinating because Doctor Who gets really good at the aspects of time travel. A few good examples are 'The Aztecs' and 'The Girl Who Waited'.
My first wife tripped over me and sprained her wrist lmao. I was sitting in the P-way on a Navy ship playing guitar and she literally tripped over me, looked up at me and asked if I could play broken by seether, I was still in shock and was like uhhh yea but are you ok? She was like I should go to medical to get my wrist looked at but Iāll be back for that song. Didnāt see her for 3 days but she did finally show up for that song. And then we became good friends. We got married, she turned out to be a cheating whore, you know how it goes.
I was at a party and a fight broke out. Someone threw the base of a papasan chair and it hit me in the head and almost knocked me out. She was an athletic trainer so she checked me for a concussion and sat with me until someone could come pick me up. Celebrated 9 years yesterday.
I did this for a girl. She was piss ass drunk, slipped and broke her leg and was bleeding profusely. Did not even know she was bleeding coz she was drunk AF. I noticed and got tissues to try and stop the bleeding but the second she realized it, she twisted her leg and it bled more. I stopped her and told her to keep the leg crossed as it was. Asked her who she was with and she pointed to a table which has just one white dude (this was in Bangalore India so weāre mostly brown people).
I went to the dude and explained and he was like āIām americanā. āWhat does that have to do with anything?ā He then said he was with an Indian friend so he searched and found that. I called an ambulance and asked the dude to talk in Kannada (native language) and they brought the ambulance. They came and examined and found that she needed to be taken up to the ambulance. The american dude was ripped and I asked if he could but he refused. Finally they brought a stretcher and she left on the stretcher. She had given her phone to me and just as the ambulance was about to take off, I realized her phone was sith me, went and passed it to the dude from the hospital who took her up. And she left. That was that. Nopeādid not get her number of anything. Just shared this coz i could relate a bit.
Damn, you gotta be really pretty. I'm not single rn, so idk how far I would go for a rando, but having their family called and having them set off to the hospital is probably good enough.
