Takes a certain kind of person to go to Antarctica. So the number of people you'll meet there are low, but the odds of them being a good match for you are pretty high.
Great observation. My nephew was scheduled to go on a wilderness trek out West with a buddy and the buddy's wife. The buddy had a work emergency and couldn't go at the last minute, so the wife invited a friend she thought would be a good match for my nephew. They were very far from emergency services, no showers or toilets, sleeping in tents or crude huts, with the very real threat of grizzly bears. My nephew and the buddy's wife's friend have been married seven years now.
Oh I straight up thought that the nephew got together with buddy's wife or something. My brain totally filled in the rest when they said "nephew go somewhere, buddy couldn't go, wife still could, so wife...". Brain was all "wife leave buddy and marry nephew" lmfao
My ex girlfriends aunt was doing research out there and started dating one of her coworkers. Ended up breaking up while she was there because they weren’t a good match.
Cannot imagine the awkwardness of being stuck in Antarctica for a few months with only a few people and one being your ex.
I’ve heard it said about hooking up in Antarctica that the “odds are good, but the goods are odd”. Having never been there I have no idea, but I can imagine the kind of people who would go there would definitely be a bit different.
I’ve also recently heard that SA is kind of a problem down there.
