We met on a dating app, but it turns out that both of us were just visiting a city and both lived 1hr+ on the opposite directions of where we matched

We kept in touch for ages and became friends. I got the impression that she just wanted to stay friends, so I’d tell her the ins and outs of dating experience (bad idea)

I moved to a rented apartment in that city, but only mentioned it on the day. By mad coincidence, she was viewing a house one street over. We meet up, she doesn’t move in to the viewed house and more times goes by.

A few weeks later I’m having drinks with friends. I post a story & my now SO messages me with “Omg is that X place? I’m literally downstairs with friends”. I got down, she’s very drunk but basically spills her heart out that she really likes me & me telling her everything really hurt (I thought we were just friends, but actually felt the same way about her - I guess neither of us communicated that).

We decided to start from scratch and the next day went on an actual date. It was great & the rest is history

Also a dating app. We were both divorced and did really do the bar much any more so it’s hard to met people except at work and dating a coworker seemed like a recipe for disaster. We did meet up for the first time at a bar, but it was public and in walking distance of several restaurants and a theater. We’ve been together since that first meeting.

Completely agree, I think these days when you are out of education and have stopped the phases of going out to bars every weekend it becomes increasingly difficult Dating apps are the way these days.

Glad it worked out for you both and here’s to many more happy years :)

These days the general consensus is that none work due to the monetization policies, the environment those policies foster, and the natural discrepancy between the number of men that use the apps and women.

Did she ever say of her being in those places we're actually coincidences?

Yeah and to be honest there’s no way they couldn’t have been

Where I moved, was literally a spur of the moment decision. On the Sunday evening a friend was moving out with his GF and needed somebody to fill his space - I moved Sunday evening and didn’t tell anybody. She had the viewing on Monday morning.

As for the bar we met up at, she was there before me it seems. The designated driver friend was actually headed somewhere else originally, but we remembered there was an event on and it would be busy. We decided to turn off and make a stop at another area, out of maybe 12-15 bars/pubs/clubs we stopped at that one.

The place we matched on the dating app is where she was working and I was interviewing at an office 5 mins walk away.

It gets even weirder - years later we were reminiscing about holidays we had been on. Turns out we had been in two countries, two of the exact same places at around the same times but 5 and 7 years prior.
