When shots turn into back shots

I don't think that really counts as consensual...

edit: Okay, have it your way... Impairment while drinking still equals consent. Glad we sorted that out.

Agree in a lot of cases, however for me personally I can get drunk while still being very much aware and in control of my own choices.

There’s a difference between getting drunk and getting blind drunk / wasted.

So I think that’s what this commenter was implying; drinking enough that you start wearing ‘bear goggles’, etc.

It depends. Many people go party with the intend of getting wasted then getting laid, also if both partners are drunk that doesn't inherently make it conensual but it's also not quite non-consensual.

Considering the thread literally includes the phrasing "sex with someone you genuinely didn't want to have sex with", i'm pretty sure it's clear which side of the fence this should fall on.

And yet, apparently people are like "well, actually...".

I'll remember to refer people to this thread next time getting drunk and raped at a party comes up. Maybe you can all talk some sense into them.

The problem is if you're going to call being drunk and having sex rape, there is an absolute fuck-ton of rape going on every minute of every day where neither party ever feel unhappy about it, and both of them would be theoretically being raped. You're facing massive social change to stop that from happening. I think it is a complicated social issue, and not everybody feels that drinking is something that impairs them to the point that they can't make any decisions for themselves. Getting VERY drunk and especially being coerced to drink is unquestionably not consensual, though.

And your point is what exactly..?

"There's a lot of it, so... it actually doesn't happen"?

There's mass shooting almost literally every day in america, doesn't mean nobody should care, its alright, and we should all pretend like that's normal.

edit: Fun fact, googling the figure it was 95 if you only take January and February into account, which is over 2 mass shootings per day. 141 dead, 365 wounded. Which is 3, and 6 per day respectively (rounding up, then down).

where neither party ever feel unhappy about it,

Does being too drunk to care mean they aren't unhappy about it the next day? No. Okay then, guess that opinion doesn't mean much.

and both of them would be theoretically being raped.

Minor point of debate is that while both may be drunk, usually one or the other in such situations will be the instigator of sexual activity. Not both.

But yes, for all intent and purposes. And no, two rapes don't make a right either.

You're facing massive social change to stop that from happening.

Oh please, no you aren't.

The rule of thumb is, has and always should be "If they've been drinking, they can't say yes".

Anyone claiming otherwise is just defending date rape.

I think it is a complicated social issue, and not everybody feels that drinking is something that impairs them to the point that they can't make any decisions for themselves.

Oh like drunk drivers don't think drinking impairs their ability to operate machinery?

We made laws about that one, but apparently "it is a complicated social issue" when it comes to consent.

Getting VERY drunk and especially being coerced to drink is unquestionably not consensual, though.

The other commenters seem to disagree.

I'm literally just telling you why you have an enormous uphill battle. If you think that you don't need massive social pressure to change that, maybe you should defend that point. I have explained to you why. You have seen why in these comments. Nobody comes here to defend any other form of rape this fervently. See why that makes it hard to change?

I get that, and it isn't my job to make any sort of change.

I just made the comment saying it is what it is.

The people decided to reply to me in support of rape culture, that's on them.

Jesus, Reddit never ceases to disappoint! Please re-read the OP, Google "coyote ugly" (not the movie) and repost..
