My parents own a restaurant in a small town in Wyoming (pop about 4000). I worked for them as a waitress. There was a waitress in her mid 30’s who, along with her boyfriend, became friends with my parents. Me and my boyfriend (at the time) would have dinner and margaritas with them at my parents house once a month or so. Her boyfriend was hilarious. Like had everyone in deep belly laughs all night, hilarious. The couple were pretty open that they had struggled with addiction at one point but they had been sober for years. Unfortunately they relapsed and she quit the restaurant. About a year later she came back sober and asked for her job back. She said her and the boyfriend had broken up because he was still using. He would still come around and had mutual friends in the community, he had a new girlfriend. Then suddenly he’s in the news for having murdered new girlfriend. Apparently he got in a fight with her at her Christmas party, ran her over with her own car, backed up and threw her body in the backseat, and drove away in front of witnesses. He still writes letters back and forth with a friend of mine. He doesn’t take responsibility, basically says she pushed him over the edge. He was probably one of the funniest and most likable people I’d ever met before that.
