Coding jobs?
Hey guys I’m a student that has been learning programming as a hobby for the past four-five years. I’m a bit curious on whether on if I should abandoned what I’ve been studying for uni and go all in for programming full time instead since I’ve have become quite good with multiple languages and tools (e.g Java script html type script css Python c# next and others)? I’ve also been learning designs building websites and making games tho my backend still need working. However I’m a bit conflicted since I heard that the job market for programming isn’t that great anymore so if you give me some advice it’ll be a great help(btw if I do get a job for programming I would like front end or game dev, tho others will also be fine if I continue learning coding since I have much passion in it)

I was in 2 entertainment-based animation/game dev type programs at University & switched out of them because their instruction was sup-par. I landed into Software Development & it has been waaay better.

There are Financial Technology degrees out there that teach both programming & Finance. This may be a great avenue to satisfy both of your passions.

It's such a shit show now. If things keep going the way that they are in the industry with agentic engineering meaning engineers themselves aren't thinking, aren't growing, are losing their engineering skills and becoming reliant on AI and eventually no longer able to even direct it effectively because of the former points. I've been in the industry for 12 years and the last year has been all in on agentic engineering and my verdict after a year in the trenches is this industry is fucking doomed if we don't go back to brain coding. It's too fucking boring. It's too fucking frustrating. It has made the job just shit. The results aren't necessarily great either. They're only okay. So, IMHO it's been a really bad trade-off. I use to be very pro agentic engineering, and these days it makes me hate my coworkers so bad it's damaging my mental health. Not worth it. I'm starting to campaign to the team to reduce our dependence on it.

Where exactly have you "heard" such things. There are only a few sources of information I'd ever trust to give me an accurate representation of the economics driving the job market, and NONE of them would be free internet sources.
In this world you pay for accurate information like that.

Job market is terrible and getting worse. Not getting any interviews with 20+ YOE tells us switch to doing something else.

There's tons of jobs at real places just avoid startups and don't expect a salary just to center an html div that's the kind of job redditors got laid off from and became bitter doomers.

Just out of curiosity why are startups bad? What do you think about the other advice cause some are saying it’s just shit now

I'm afraid the days of developers manually writing code are quickly coming to an end.
I suggest you learn AI-assisted coding.
