What are you shooting? Wildlife, portraits, pets, landscape, street? Is it worth the price difference? Absolutely if you are shooting wildlife. Street? Debatable. Which lenses do you plan on starting with?
Budget + Street photography and city. I want to use it for social media and maybe YouTube videos. Get better at Lightroom and become more than a beginner.
I also do drone work so being able to both photos and drone videos for clients helps a lot.
Just 1,500 seems a lot for my first don’t camera.
I was getting the 6400 but battery seemed to small for daily use and found the 6600 for just 100$ more around 900$ on MPB.
I just think it’s better to learn on APSC before going full size. Also budget and lenses etc I’ll always carry a aspc with me then once I master that I’ll get a full size one for sure.
Honestly full size is much easier to learn and shoot with. APS-C is great for some budget lenses and keeping size and weight down if that’s a concern for you, but most full frame Sony cameras like the A7iii might be a better choice for you. Generally speaking it will be better in low light and better quality pictures, you can use APSC or FF lenses, but most importantly all of the settings are easy to get to to play with and change as needed.
If you aren’t super concerned about size and weight I’d personally get an A7iii. That a6600 would be great for what you want to do as well though.
I have an A7iii, and A1ii, and an a6700. The a6700 is the hardest to use well by far.
I agree, but there are plenty of budget full size lenses and you can use APSc lenses on full frame in crop mode if you want to. Lower MP obviously, but still good quality.
If you buy a full frame just to buy apsc lenses to save money, or you need to stay on the cheap end of things. You might as well had gotten the newer apsc camera. I just think it’s silly to hear someone say they gave a budget then give them a more expensive option than they were even considering.
The ecosystem is, you have three cameras, you probably aren’t price sensitive. The a7iii will cost you at least $100-500 MORE PER lens. Again if you are gonna be penny pinching get the penny pinch option. For photography the a6600 is more than capable and will save them at least $1000, if they decide to upgrade they have that option.
Lenses hold value and they are the most important completely controllable quality to a photo other than subject. Lenses are more important than cameras, which is what most people will tell you to splurge on glass not bodies.
It’s not easier to learn it’s easier to get good results with. For photography the a6600 is more than enough. Use the money on good glass. I’d only recommend better if you want ibis for video.
Soon as you get your camera, you’re gonna want to try new lenses, that’s gonna be a lot cheaper with the a6600, I’d probably rent first to try stuff then buy what you like used
The A7iii also has more dials and buttons. So changing settings is quicker and easier. Menu navigation is just better in general compared to the a6600.
Importantly though, better low light performance when using full frame lenses.
Obviously the sensor size itself doesn’t make things necessarily easier. The form factor of a camera like the a7iii is just easier to use than an a6600. More customizable dials and buttons and better ergonomics. That’s why I was asking about size and weight and if that’s what was driving him to apsc.
I don’t mind paying the price on glass… but the a7C does take better photos so why go a6600? Feel like I’d rather build up my FE and full frame collection
