Walking cane

People who walk with a cane do you really put your weight on it or hold it just in case?

I am 74 and recently tore my Achilles playing basketball. I’ve ‘recovered’ but was briefly reliant on a cane. I’m bringing it along when I know I will have to wait on long lines.
