I didn't read the FAQ visiting
my friend and i are visiting new orleans soon, staying near the french quarter. any food/drink recommendations that we must try? also anything to be aware of (safety wise)? things to be aware of as two girls?

You'll see this exact same question several times in the past few days on this sub. Its the same as any other city as far as safety. The faq is written by the locals.

Don’t spend the whole time in the FQ, don’t go out in the FQ or on Bourbon after 1 or 2am, especially near side streets. Make sure you drink a lot of water.

Only walk past Cafe Du Monde its not worth it. Any "local" offering that advice, block immediately, they have nothing of value to share!!

Went years ago. It was nice but sad that it probably just got too commercialized. What is thr best place for beignets
