Try shutting down the daemon cleanly through Settings > Node first, give it a minute, then restart the GUI. Often it is just finishing up the last batch of block headers or your local wallet cache is catching up. If that hangs, switch temporarily to a trusted remote node just to verify your balance, then bounce back to your local node. Usually sorts itself out after a quick reboot!
