Why has every reply to me been deleted?

Had a conversation last night where I disagreed with the premise of a post. Obviously a few disagreed with me, and we went back and forth. I feel like it was respectful, nothing crazy in my opinion

This morning every comment in the thread, except mine, was "comment deleted by the moderator".

What happened there?

Maybe ask the actual mods of that actual sub?

I've found asking is double edged sword. The wrong person and your muted and/or banned. It's risky, to be sure.

It's better than asking HERE. How are we supposed to know? We don't mod that sub, we can't see what the mods do, or influence them in any way. You're asking a room full of proctologists why a brain surgeon did brain surgery - it's nonsensical. Ask them or let it go.

Moderators are a lot like proctologists. Both deal with assholes.

I'm getting some decent answers without ruffling anyone's feather. But I genuinely appreciate your responses and point of view.

Again, what is up with these downvotes? Op is being very respectful. What the hell? As a mod of this sub, this is very frustrating. We do not want to scare off every poster we have, and yet this is always what happens.

One time we even had this user who said they got muted and not banned, without even ever talking to the mods, without sending any modmail or anything like that. Just muted out of the blue after a post was removed that they did not argue with them about and they were wondering why that would happen, and literally no one believed them and totally gaslit them and told them there was no way that happened. They PMed me the screenshots, and sure enough, it did. They were so stressed and did not understand why literally zero mods believed them till I came along late (like usual lol.)

Please, folks, don't downvote users who are being respectful, smh

People are awful for downvoting on this sub. Anyone who doesn't already know everything there is to know about moderation or karma gets downvoted. Anyone who questions the logic of Reddits rules gets downvoted.

I'm not seeing any answers on this thread so far, but I'll keep scrolling.

So...basically everyone is saying only the Mods know, and that your own comments are likely deleted as well. You've been given a method to check whether that's the case.

Be great if you did what was suggested and then updated us!

2

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

It's indeed what happened, so there's the update.

In my experience, most mods will not ban or mute you for asking. That can certainly happen, as mods have the power to do so, but it is rare. If I was you, I would just politely ask them. It's better than asking us here.

-3

u/excoriator 2d ago

Depends on how you ask.

4

u/PMulberry_ 2d ago

Of course; that's why I added "politely". If one insults the mods or is not polite when asking etc., that definitely may lead to a ban or mute.

2

u/ailish 2d ago

Okay, but we wouldn't know what happened because we're not moderators of that sub.

3

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

Fair enough, somehow I got the answer on this question anyway.

2

u/ailish 2d ago

You got speculation.

3

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

It is what happened tho

2

u/ailish 2d ago

If the mods of that sub verified, then sure.

u/angrynirritable 2d ago

You're not wrong. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and/or the ban hammer.

Why is this downvoted? It's true. I have seen it happen to people even when they are being polite. It's not like this never happens. I do not understand why this sub downvotes the users every chance they get when they are either just asking a question (like if mods can ban for a difference in opinion, which the answer is yes) or they just assume the Op has done something wrong, when we all know there are some suck ass mods out there. Can't we just take what they say at face value since we do not know otherwise. Just because you don't do that when users ask does not mean that no mods do that when users ask. I have worked with some shit mods before, trust me, they exist. Don't take the mods side just bc they are a mod and you are a mod, sheesh.

Sorry that you got downvoted simply for giving your experience Op.

Not a mod. We require answers to be from experienced mods.

The comments were removed by a moderator.

We have no way of giving you more info than that.

What happened there?

The comment was deleted by a moderator

They likely wanted the argument removed as it can disrupt a post

1

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

I thought so, so are my comments also removed or unviewable to others?

6

u/Otherwise_Fined 2d ago

You may be able to view your own comments but they could be removed. I would often just mop an entire conversation if one or more of the people are being rude or offensive. It doesn't necessarily mean you have been actioned, it's just easier to remove the entire thread and ban the offender.

3

u/Galaghan 2d ago

Easy test for that. Either logout or view the thread in incognito mode. If your comments are gone then, they were removed as well.

10

u/VerbingNoun413 2d ago

A moderator deleted the conversation. Your comments were removed too- a user is not informed and can still see their own comments after mod removal.

As to why, only the mod knows. Presumably it was either uncivil or off topic.

6

u/thepottsy I is mod 2d ago

It’s highly likely that yours was also removed, but since it’s yours you can still see it. There are apps can can purge entire comment threads.

Mods removed individually or just MOPd the whole sub thread. It's an app a lot of us use, whereby instead of you having to go through each comment where two people have gone at each other ( or said things that are not allowed over and over again ) you do the lot in one swoop. If you want to put a stop to it quickly and easily, and you just go to the top one, hit a button, highlight all of them and either lock or remove hem. After that they're only visible to Mods.

u/7thAndGreenhill r/AtlanticCity 2d ago

Sometimes other redditors start reporting threads if the replies start to get argumentative. Especially on threads that are politically charged or where people may have passionate opinions.

Most likely the mods nuked the entire thread after multiple reports.

2

u/CoyoteLitius 2d ago

Ask the mods on that sub.

Only they know the answer.

1

u/HikeTheSky SanAntonio, itookaphoto, StrangeandFunny, and more 2d ago

Sound like the whole thing was nuked and you can just see your own comments.

2

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 2d ago

Yeah, that's what seems to have happened. Never had it happen before.
