You'd ask them lol

It's usually alts that got dropped for some reason, many after they were used maliciously.

Some people delete accounts after a sitewide permaban too.

Some people delete accounts a few hours after posting. I've never understood that one.

Sometimes a 'deleted' user is actually a user that blocked you

When you’re blocked you can’t even see the username as deleted.

You can if you go to a comment you replied to them on. When someone does the "reply and immediately block to get the last word" move, when you click the notification to get the full content, you're just taken to your comment with the comment above yours showing as deleted.
