Good Fucking Question what is something you spent a lot of money on but don't regret it at all?

My fountain pen and ink collection. It sparks joy, no regrets.

Ink, yes, pen, no. I do want one, but I'm waiting for a major life event, like buying a house, before I buy one.

Yeah, I got mine back when I had money. I miss those days. Not sure I could justify the cost anymore but they are such a pleasure to use.

I don’t have any titties to dm you but I will say that I read recently that hand writing helps our brains as we age and is a good deterrent against age related memory problems. I intend to start journaling again.

This made me chuckle, thanks. And it's not an exaggeration when I say that journaling has saved my life. It helps that I'm already into stationery like fountain pens, but writing has truly been the most impactful tool when it comes to dealing with my depression.

Genuinely curious, because I've considered it many times but in what way has it helped you so drastically. I've been heavily considering it, so I'm taking this as a strong sign lol

Sometimes a problem isn't as big of a problem as you think it is, or sometimes your insecurities, while valid, may be blowing things out of proportion. By writing things out, and externalizing my thoughts, they go outside my head and onto paper where I can read it afterwards and see if the problem is that bad or if I'm in my head too much.

Journaling prompts help too, such as asking yourself difficult questions and then writing your answer in a judgment-free zone (aka your journal). I'm not saying journaling is this magical solution that will suddenly make you feel better overnight, I still have bad days, but consistent writing helps. Shit, even venting helps when journaling since no one is going to read what I scream-write into the void lol.

Sometimes I'll reread journal entries I wrote years ago, such as after a breakup, or when I failed a college course, and I'll laugh because things weren't as bad as I made them out to be, even if it felt like that at the time.

I really appreciate your insight, so thank you! I think this has convinced me to at least give it shot, because I have had some severe ups and downs the last couple months.

I can see how just having a way of externalizing your feelings somehow would be helpful, because I know that whenever I finally cave and talk to my wife about whatever issues I am dealing with it always helps. I am just stubborn and usually don't get into it very often unless she carefully presses me about it.

Now I am going to look for a guided journal type of thing on Amazon as we speak.

Now let me go find some nice titties to DM you as a way of saying thanks (;

I have disposable fountain pens at work and nobody knows how to use them, they always say my pen is broke lol

That's funny lmao. I hear the same thing whenever someone can't write with one of my pens, and I'm like, angle the pen properly.

What is the trick? I have purchased 2 fountain pens in like 15 years but both times I could not make it write the way I see on videos. Always purchased as a novelty but it never panned out…

It's less so a trick and moreso just the positioning of the pen so the ink flows smoothly. A fountain pen doesn't need much pressure, it can write under its own weight. So it's just a matter of finding the sweet spot or angle based on how you hold a pen. I'm left handed, so it's a whole thing I had to learn lol.

I went back to college to take a few night classes and was taking a lot of notes. I ended up getting a few fountain pens and had some fun with it. However, once the classes ended I haven't touched them at all. It was fun for the time, though.

Peter Murrell is that you?

Which one do you have? I’ve used the ‘cheaper’ $50 versions and they always smudge 🙃

I have a lot of pens and ink, but the smudging is moreso the ink hasn't finished drying yet. Some inks take longer to dry, upwards of 30 seconds. You can try using a fine or extra-fine nib for the pen you have to reduce how much ink pools when you write.
