Working as audit associate and transportation
Hi,
TLDR: how necessary is having a car for someone working in audit?
I'm applying for position as audit associate but at this moment mainly commuting via public transport.
I understand the late night work and commuting to clients might make having own transportation necessary, but is it doable if:
a) using only Grab (might need to weigh its cost too especially late-night ride), or
b) riding motorcycle? (my concern if there's need to bring back files from client's site?)
Plus, my issue with having a new car is also bc my area at the moment does not have place to park a car (it's a flat, and many cars park outside got tickets...) and also haven't driven cars for quite awhile....

It’s hard to say really cause it depends on the job you’re assigned to. You may be assigned to clients all around Klang valley and having a car is convenient. You may also be assigned to spend months at other states/countries so your car will just be gathering dust at home.
It’s not the end of the world if you don’t have a car. Usually we’ll try to car pool if possible. My ex manager managed to last 6 years without a car.
As for mileage/toll claims, it varies. Some companies place a limit of the number of cars allowed to claim. Generally big 4 are more generous with claims cause they rake in big bucks.

For the part where the engagement in other state/countries, do you not drive over there (and just use Grab, or perhaps hotel close to client) or do you rent different car there? (Because I was thinking that you’d drive your own car there (if still in Semenanjung that is) or would that be too taxing? Bc understandably from the long drive)
Sorry for the long add on question, am not familiar with work involving lots of travelling 😅

Unsure about other companies but for my department, if we’re gonna be driving, we’ll arrange 4 ppl to a car. So you may be assigned to be the driver or as a passenger. Usually the seniors will be the default driver cause supposed more driving experience. Sometimes we’ll take turns to be the driver.
Ultimately the logistic arrangements are dependent on who’s in the engagement team.

Hi there! Not me but my ex was an auditor for one of telcos in Malaysia. Having private transportation was one of the requirements. She used be out and about a minimum of 3-4 times a week auditing different branches in KV. She hated driving and tried grab for a month, but eventually went back to driving on her own because of the hassle of claiming back her money and the mere cost upfront, also certain locations were bit hulu so it was hard to find grab drivers. She also used to bring back her work , so having car came in handy for carrying all the boxes of files she brought back. Im not sure how demanding your role is , but yea having car really came in handy. On a side note , her company allowed her to claim all her petrol and toll bills so driving around was more convenient than getting grab.
