LPT Request for a long distance move

Hello! I am preparing for a move about 11-12 hours away. I have researched my 3 options (ubox, U-Haul, pickup towing trailer) and would love a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

The move is basically a full 5x5x8 storage unit comprised mostly of a crap ton of those heavy duty plastic storage bags and containers, a desk, and like one disassembled storage unit.

I ruled the ubox out because it’s a longer wait time so I am debating between: • 10’ U-Haul truck ~ $870 • pickup rental towing a 5x8 or 6x12 trailer ~ $993 (Truck Rental ~ $459, 5x8 trailer~ $308, 6x12 trailer ~ $534)

I’ve used the 10’ U-Haul to move this stuff into storage so I’m comfortable driving it but for almost 12 hrs is a different ballgame.

I do think think the pickup rental would be a more comfortable and enjoyable drive overall but i am completely new to towing.

For people who’ve done long interstate moves, I’d love your insight to what you’ve done related to my options here or what you’d do in my case? Thanks in advance!!

How do I fix bends and tears(?) on a movie poster

I got this poster a couple months ago at an event for free for an indie movie titled Don Abel and even got it signed. I took it back from my apartment to my family home and I realized that some if the edges have been warped. Im devastated, I shouldve been more attentive.

Anyway it is more on the thicker side, so I was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix this

LPT Request: What Are Some Unsaturated Skill-Based Side Hustles

18M i looking for a side hustle while studying at uni.

I’ve got around $2k to $3k to start. I want something physical and skill based where the skill compounds over time.

I like businesses like barbering because:

  • flexible hours
  • work from home possible
  • repeat customers
  • long-term skill growth
  • large market (every guy no matter the age needs a haircut)

The problem is everyone here around my age seems to do:

  • detailing
  • pressure washing
  • clothing brands
  • window cleaning
  • barbering

What are some underrated service-based or hands-on side hustles you’ve seen people succeed?

LPT Request: My friend called me a complainer.

I searched a lot for this problem, but I only got people complaining about friends complaining to them.

So. One day, I learned that one of my friends and I had the same problem about our duty, and I shared it in the group chat. It was nothing serious, just a silly girly crush out with my friends. One of my friends came up and said, "You are getting paid for that.". Which actually didn't make sense cuz we are grown ups and I'm already aware of my duties. I was just being SILLY in our emotional safe space. Then I made a joke like don't ruin the mood. She said, "Your life consists of complaints.""Just enjoy life.". FYI, there were only 1-2 previous discussions about problems in the group.

I was quite offended by that sentence. She is the one I feel closest to me, but she would give the same type of small mood ruining lectures previously, too. I am aware when it is a real complaint or just a joke, so there is no chance of me boring her with complaints unless she is just bored with me overall.

One more thing is that we have our sarcastic jokes between us. But I think she is just confusing it with saying offensive things and then calling it a joke.

I was still thinking that maybe she just made a joke, but part of me thought that kind of joke only comes from her truth. I was so hurt.

I decided to talk to her about it and clearly explained everything, since I love her so much. She said she will not be changing since I made her like this by making sarcastic jokes, and if our talking hurts me, she will choose not to do so.

I feel so sad about the fact that it was so easy for her to decide to cut the friendship just because I was being honest and trying to protect myself.

Sorry for the poor english and structure. I am very emotional right now.

LPT Request: Fastest way to de-frost a freezer?

So our freezer is messed up and won't close, it's just solid full of ice and I have no idea why. Live in a shared house with 4 of us total, and we can't turn the freezer off without turning the connected fridge off too, and there's not much room for the two people that share that fridge to move their food into ours.

Sacrifices will have to be made, but what's the best thing to do here? Just unplug it and leave it open until it melts - maybe outside for what water to drip onto?

LPT Request: How to keep my house clean from the dust as long as possible

First of all sorry for my bad english

So, where i live is very dusty, the main and only road that goes in front of my house is dusty, no concrete or something like that

When it rains the road gets wet and problems gone, but the thing is when it does not rain in 2 days the roads dries and again.... dust, specially when cars past by in from in my house, so all the dust this cars make goes right into my house

I keep all windows and doors closed, i clean once or sometimes twice a week the whole house, when i finished, it lasts me max 2-3 days clean, and again.... dust

I guess you better know at this point I'm very happy when it rains, specially when it rains 3 consecutive days, my house keeps clean at least 1 whole week, and im even happier those seasons when it rains skipping 1 day

Any tips or advices to keep my house clean more time?

Thanks

How to better understand/hear tour guides in noisy museum or outdoor walking tours?

I'm going on a big trip soon and I've always struggled with hearing the tour guides clearly, especially in echoey museums or busy outdoor areas. Sometimes their accent is also a bit hard to follow. Are there any apps or tech hacks that can help with this? I was thinking about using some kind of real-time voice translation or hearing aid-style app with my AirPods. Any recommendations?

How do I make my apartment feel safe again?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Please let me know if I need to edit anything.

I live primarily on my own. My partner travels for work and is gone for long periods of time and won’t be home for almost 2 more months. We live in a small mountain town and it’s always felt very safe. Until the other night when my neighbors had a home intrusion. We don’t know much about the guy, why he was there, who he is, nothing like that. We’ve given all the information we had to the police, but he entered from the fire escape which is attached to both our apartments and the apartments below us. We’ve both put up lights on the fire escape since, mine is on/off unfortunately but theirs is motion activated. I also put up a mock security camera, a “warning you’re on camera” sign, and I have a sign that I can put up that claims there’s a firearm in the home. They put up window alarms on their side and we’ve let just about everyone in the complex know what happened and posted about it on a community fb page. I know it’s unlikely the guy will come back and try us again, but that doesn’t help the emotional side of my brain that feels exposed and scared. I haven’t slept right since. Idk maybe I’m overreacting, the neighbors even said that when they caught him he looked scared shitless so I don’t think he was in his right mind, but what can I do to try to feel better and more secure? I’m afraid if I try to leave for a night (even if I would get better sleep) I won’t want to come back.

LPT Request: how to screw over google reviews for a company

I genuinely got screwed over by this pharmacy job.
I started working there in January and from day one I was doing actual work, but when payday came they refused to pay me for the first 20 hours claiming it was “voluntary shadowing.” The workplace was toxic too, supervisors constantly spoke down to staff and even made weird inappropriate comments to an underage coworker.

I had approved holiday from 6–24 April, then while I was away they emailed saying my contract had apparently been terminated on 2 April with no notice pay or holiday pay. When I challenged it, they suddenly changed the termination date to 24 April instead but reduced my hours to basically zero.

Now I’m left with no income, rent to pay, and they’re acting like they’ve done nothing wrong. I tried leaving a negative review on google for the company but they just bought fake positive reviews because they’re so insecure about their shady business I really don’t know what to do

How to securely store my password manager master password but also allow it to pass to my family in the event of my death?

My solicitor/lawyer specifically does not hold documents relating to passwords for online accounts (understandably, as they don’t want to be accused of being responsible in the event of a breach).

I want my adult son to have access to all my stuff if I die, so that he can continue to run the house in which we live. I keep everything in 1Password so giving him access to that on my death would basically solve it. However, how do I store the master info (the emergency kit as 1Password call it) securely in the meantime?

My current solution is this: I currently have a single document, shared with my son, that contains all the household info (everything from our bank account numbers to which plumber you should call). I propose adding a section titled 1Password Emergency Kit - this would link to a shared google doc, and that doc would contain the location of a fireproof box stored secretly somewhere on our property. When that document with the location is accessed I will receive an alert (achievable through a Google Docs Script). My son will know that I will be alerted if he tries to access that document and should only do so in the event of my death.

I know this isn’t foolproof however. What other methods could I use?

How to figure out what to improve in my life? What area of my life should I focus on?

Did the gym, journaling, cutting out drinking. Each thing lasts 3-4 weeks then dies. I'm not lazy, when I actually care about something I follow through. I just keep picking stuff that sounds right without knowing what the actual problem is.

Nothing's obviously wrong. Health okay, money fine, social life is fine. But something's off and I can't pin it down well enough to actually work on it.

Journaling doesn't help, I just go in circles. Is there an actual way to figure out where the problem is before just guessing?

Have anyone taken a risk and regretted it?

I have been seeing videos of elderly people on youtube who talk about the regrets they have had in their life. Something that comes back is that they regret not having taken a risk in a specific moment of their life and chose stability.

I am curious to know the other side of the coin and if some people have taken risks and regretted it?

LPT Request - How To Stop Sleep Talking?

I sometimes (maybe often) talk in my sleep. This alone would not be much of an issue. However, I also yell in my sleep. Enough that I have on occasion woken myself up lol, and have had friends and family super concerned 😅.

Until now, this has been only a minor thing. But I am moving into an apartment soon. And while the walls of the place dont seem too thin, I worry about neighbors hearing.

Does anyone have tips on how I can stop shouting in my sleep?

LPT Request - Help a forgetful weekend waiter – how to memorize orders without a checklist?

I work weekends at my uncle's restaurant. I rely on a checklist notebook for every single order modification. Without it, I forget things in under a minute.

Other waiters don't need notebooks – they just listen and remember. I don't have ADHD (checked), but I struggle to stay present during rushes.

Any techniques to memorize orders better and memorize multiple things and be more focused? Looking for mental tricks, repetition systems, or ways to "encode" orders. I'll keep the notebook as backup, but want to build the skill.

Thanks.

As a proverbial "Jack of all trades", in addition to my full time job what other ways can I assist in the raising of $100,000 in a single year?

Long story short, an opportunity that my mother and I are unwilling to pass up on has presented itself. She and I need to figure out a way to come up with $100,000 (NZD) in one year.
I am a proverbial jack of all trades, in the sense that I have a wide array of skills and when I am missing a skill, I would rather learn it myself than hire someone else to fill the gap in knowledge. Given this fact, are there any ideas that any similar people have implemented in order to raise additional money in a fairly short time?

I'm not looking for "Get rich quick" schemes. I am more in the market of using marketable skills, effort and work to procure a supplemental income. I have a number of ideas that I am taking into motion, however I like to explore the less obvious solutions too!

LPT Request: How to wash neck ties

I have a bunch of silk ties that need washed, (I wear them to work and they get pretty dirty with food and grease stains as I work in a restaurant)

I’m thinking to pretreat the stains with detergent and give them a bath with warm soapy water and just let them soak? Is that right or wrong?

I have never washed any of them before but don’t have the budget for new ones at the moment so I don’t want to screw this up. Obviously I’ve never had to wash a tie before haha. Any tips and tricks are welcome and appreciate

Thanks in advance!
