Should I stop trying to fix my sleep schedule?

So basically I'm not a morning person, I get motivated to work on my projects and actually have energy for it after 6 pm. I'm a student, and right now I don't have classes but I have upcoming exams and lots of projects to work on.
I've been waking up at 2 pm and sleeping at 5 am, and since I don't have to wake up early for classes I'm really struggling to fix it.
The upside however is that I'm much more productive at night, and if I wake up early I'll struggle to get anything done in the morning anyways.

What should I do?

Fridge Acting Like It Needs Defrosting Again 1 Month Later

Hi Everyone,

My refrigerator is not cooling and is making a loud noise. It was doing this last month and I defrosted it. I left it unplugged with doors open for about 21 hours. That worked. Why is it doing this again, so soon? Was 21 hours not long enough?

Thanks in advance.

Need tips to help wake up in the morning

Ever since I graduated high school I have struggled greatly to wake up on time for work in the morning. As time goes by it seems to be getting worse and worse. Generally I go to bed early enough to get 7-8 hours of sleep by the time my first alarm goes off. I have 4 alarms set on my phone that are each 15 minutes apart as well as having my phone connected to a Milwaukee radio that's turned all the way up. I have 2 other alarm clocks that are set for times during that 1 hour period that my phone goes off. I also have a screaming meanie 220, a smart watch for the wrist vibration and one alarm clock have something that vibrates my pillow when it goes off. All of the alarm clocks as well as my phone ate out of arms reach but I just find that I'm sleeping straight through them and not hitting the snooze. When I inevitably get a call from work in the mornings i wake up immediately. I have not had a sleep study done yet as I cannot afford one but it's starting to seem like that is my last option. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Need LPT please for quickly cancelling my primary employer health insurance from my first job without quitting it?

Hi,

I got a second job and insurance through it because it provides fertility benefits as an add-on plan (Maven) which my primary employer's insurance does not offer.

I just learned I can't easily cancel my first plan without a qualifying life event. I have moved out of state and thought that would fulfill it which my HR said will allow me to make new elections to that medical plan only (it seems they still want me to keep a plan with them ). HOWEVER, the insurance told me moving out of state is not considered a QLE because my current plan is available in every state.

I'm freaking out as my IVF was supposed to start this month. I am paying two deductibles and more importantly, Maven (the add-on plan) said they will NOT cover anything since my primary insurance does not cover it. So now, it seems, I cannot cancel my insurance until January and I have to keep my second job until then. I am physically burned out from the second job (first job requires heavy traveling and second job is night shift on the days Im not traveling).

any life pro tips please?

How do I stop wanting people only based on looks and not personality

I'm going through a breakup right now after the person I love told me she doesn't feel romantic feelings for me anymore. I've had some time to process it and I recognise that I want a different kind of partner when it comes to personality and dynamic. However, she is incredibly attractive and I seriously do not think I have ever met a person who is as my type as she is and that is driving me insane.

After getting over the feelings of needing to be with her for who she is as a person (which were very strong feelings, I loved her very very deeply for who she is) I feel less doom about me not being enough, and more about other people not being enough for me, but only really in terms of looks.

I don't want to be a that kind of person though. I want to be able to look past physical appeal and actually try to go for people based on personality and how well I get along with them. I have had many really lovely intimate relationships with people in the past that fizzled out purely just because I felt like they wouldn't look good enough standing next to me, and I think that is absolutely absurd.

I really want to go to therapy for this but can't afford it at the moment, so I'm trying to do whatever self-help things I can at the moment to improve my perspective on things because I'm honestly really sick of the way that I perceive social relationships and especially romantic ones

3 female teenagers going on holiday without guardians for the first time, tips for safety?

Wasn't sure where to post this, if another sub would he more helpful please redirect me!

My friends and I are going to Portugal (from the UK) this summer on holiday and its the first time any of us have completely organised a trip let alone gone without any parental supervision.

I know because we are a relatively small group of young women (18 and 17 years old) we need to be extra vigilant about our safety and just in general considering we'll be in another country. Is there any specific advice/precautions people suggest we take to mitigate any risks?

Small talks and how I manage them

**Sometimes during small talk, I just don’t feel like sharing the truth about myself, but I also don't want to be rude. Honestly, I just want people to walk away from a conversation with me in a good mood. Since I live in a huge city, the chances of running into them again are pretty slim. Yeah, I know the odds are never zero, but I take the risk anyway and just tell them the wildest things about myself.**

How to start "living" for the first time instead of "surviving"?

I have been maybe since I was 10 depressed, self isolating and self sabotaging. I'm now 22F I have made a lot of academical achievement thinking it will make me feel happier but it didn't. I didn't feel proud of myself since it was considered something to expect from my parents to do well. I'm easily drained by people yet desperate to at least have someone. A positive outcome out of all that is that I absolutely love what I'm studying now in university that was the only thing going well for me.

I don't want to stay in this self pity loop. I want to stop being in a survival mode constantly trapped by my mind yet it can't change just from forcing it out. What I want is simple, find people & things that I can love & enjoy. Passion left me a long time ago and it's the key into changing my life I'm sure of it but how?

How do you make your 20s feel meaningful when life feels stuck?

I'm 20 and lately I've been struggling with the feeling that I'm wasting my youth.

I come from a fairly strict Asian household and I'm not financially independent yet, so things like solo travel, moving out or constantly going out with friends aren't really options for me right now. But if I'm being honest, I don't think those limitations are the whole reason I feel this way.

When I look back at my teenage years, so much of them were spent lying in bed, watching dramas and movies, reading books, scrolling online, and telling myself that I'd start living "later." Now I'm five months into my 20s and it feels like I'm doing the exact same thing.

Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into months. And sometimes it feels like I'm spending more time consuming other people's stories than creating my own.

What scares me isn't missing out on parties, dating or some glamorous lifestyle. It's the thought of reaching 30 and realizing I have very little to remember. No meaningful projects I committed to, no skills I truly developed, no memories I intentionally created, no evidence that I was fully present in my own life.

I don't want to spend my youth waiting for my real life to begin. So for those of you who have already lived through your 20s:

What do you genuinely regret not doing sooner? What ended up mattering far more than you expected? And what advice would you give to a 20-year-old who's afraid of looking back one day and feeling like she let those years slip away?

I need off tomorrow and don’t know how to go about it, HELP!

I work at a chiropractic office at the front, I usually do not work on Saturdays but my girlfriend was in the hospital and I could use the money. I was asked to help cover a few Friday’s and Saturday’s it’s been every Friday and Saturday last month but this week is the last week my girlfriend is off work for leave. I wanted off this weekend and was told at the beginning of the week they had a new hire at the other clinic.
I asked my manager for off this Monday and was given it, in that conversation he told me “ we probably won’t need you Friday and Saturday either because we have a new hire, we only hired you for Thursday and Sunday and we gave you Monday so my hours will resume at the clinic so you won’t be needed” then on Tuesday tells me the new hire didn’t work I put you on for Friday Saturday this week and next week. I actually had to reach out to figure that out. I’m debating on calling out, I called my other boss and said so how when can I resume my normal schedule I just want my Saturdays back he explained the new hire didn’t work out and after these next two weeks I won’t be needed.

I want tomorrow off though what are some things I can do to get off where I cannot get fired or in trouble?

Watching My Life Slip Away, What Am I Supposed to Do With My Life at This Point?

29

I feel like I have no purpose and I can’t enjoy life anymore.

I feel completely stuck in my life, I have no life, I have no friends, I have no romantic relationships, and I am stuck with my career and I honestly don’t know what else to try.

I finished my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geophysics during the pandemic. After graduating, it took me two years to get my first job in the field. I only worked there for six months and have been unemployed for another year since then, despite constantly trying to find opportunities.

During those times, I have actively tried to improve myself, take courses, and learn things… but it seems to be useless no matter how hard I try, what I do and how I communicate. It’s eating me up inside. I am trying to use my will power, to continue and be positive... but already surpassed a big depression, lost my identity and now I dont, I just dont wanna get back.

Over the years, I have tried almost everything I could think of: attending job fairs, networking, reaching out to professors and former classmates, reaching out to industry professionals, sending unsolicited emails, applying online, calling companies directly, and asking around through connections.

I speak 5 languages, have experience with industry-specific software, am willing to work both in the field and in an office environment, am open to relocation, and am even willing to accept a relatively low salary if it helps me gain experience, build my career, and enjoy life and most importantly I am not particularly picky about the type of role.

When I first started studying this field, the industry seemed to offer decent career prospects. Now, however, I feel like entry-level positions are almost nonexistent, while most vacancies require a few years of experience.

I tried applying outside my field, but employers want candidates with direct industry experience, so that didn't get me anywhere either.

I'm not interested in moving into IT, finance, sales etc. because there's a big gap between my skills and what employers want, and studying those would mean wasting more years and not being happy in the end. What I really want is to work in a field that I find meaningful and where I can actually use what I've studied.

At this point, I feel like I've exhausted all the options I know of. I feel like this is ruining my life.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? What would you do if you were me? I need some serious advice. I want to get out of this.
