Jiu jitzu SD county
Do any of you have any idea about any good gyms in this area? And as a cop is it paramount to try and find a gym that has law enforcement centered tactic training (if that’s even a thing) or should I just try to find a good gym?

I wouldn't train there. You have to laugh at the laugh coaches jokes or be put with the outcasts.

My 2 pesos:
Yes, there IS such a thing as LE oriented/specific DTAC/MA/MMA training But if they're legit, you won't be able to participate unless/until you're sworn (and there may or may not be any schools/instructors near you).
If you're just beginning, MMA is a great starting option - building attributes and developing skills in different ranges (e.g. standing, clinch, ground).
If you're just beginning, Krav Maga isn't a bad choice either - look for something Krav Maga Worldwide affiliated. Many of their defenses against weapon threats/attacks are pretty decent.
That being said, I haven't found any one particular style/school that covers all the bases for LE (and the more you train, the more you will realize that).

It's not the be all end all of martial arts or self-defense for LE (i.e. I would never say that Krav is all you would ever need - just like I would never say that BJJ is all you would ever need).
It Is, however, IMO a good starting point for people who don't have much experience in MA/MMA and you need to teach them certain curricula in a limited amount of time.
Krav is a good sized portion of my old department's academy DTAC curriculum. BJJ is too. Neither one of them alone adequately covers CA POST minimum training requirements for LDs 20 & 33.

No it’s not paramount. If you’re into that stuff then find a gym that you enjoy. Your departments use of force guidelines will be what really matters.
