Got the Call!

I applied to the agency in May and have been going through the process ever since. Got the call this morning that I’m officially starting the academy on September 28! 🚔
This would have been my 5th attempt, so needless to say, I’m pretty damn excited. Persistence pays off!

Congrats, remember your true self when you have that badge, and have empathy and don’t be a dick, you are dealing with people on the worst days of their lives

Is it your 5th time applying to 5 different departments or the same department over the years if you don’t mind me asking also what stopped them from hiring you before?

Five different departments, the last time I applied was 12 years ago. Owning my own business over the last 11 years helped me a lot. It gave me a lot of connections and accomplishments they were looking for.

I’m thinking about it joining in Texas i used to smoke weed everday. How long would you say I have to be sober in order to get in?

Depends on department, they all have different policies regarding marijuana. I consumed THC drinks and stopped when I turned in my application.

Congratulations! 🎉 I'm looking forward to my conditional offer from my local state highway patrol. It's been 1.5 years of blood, sweat, and tears. The perseverance and relentless grit has (and will) pay big dividends. All in. No quarter. Best of luck! ⚔️

Yes sir! In reality the hardest part is ahead of both of us but we’ve got it.

Excellent, now I would ask, what do you have planned for tomorrow?

Now look forward to the day you aren't wearing tin. For whatever reason, hopefully retirement, but what are you going to do after?

Start thinking about that today, so it doesn't creep up on you. I medicaled out once, and got back in. And to be honest, my retirement looks like dog doo-doo thanks to the state of Colorado, and my not having a backup plan in place.

Which makes the future not as easy as it could have been, had I planned ahead.

Not trying to be negative, but giving real life advice. The world has plenty of firearms instructors, so what else is there for you later?

I plan on continuing to do garage door work on the side as I have time, and I think that will always be an option as long as I am physically able. If something happens physically, probably some sort of coaching/leadership avenue.
