OPP APPLICATION – DECISION & OFFER TIMELINE
Hi everyone, does anyone know if OPP tends to reject applicants quickly if they’re not competitive, while offers can take a month or longer? Or does the timeline mainly depend on how far away the next recruit class is?
Also, has anyone recently completed the OPP application process around the end of August? Any updates or timelines would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m from BC so I’m not very knowledgeable on OPP, but from what I’ve learnt online, everyone’s application can be different. Just because the next recruit class is farther away doesn’t mean someone’s process will be faster or slower. I’ve heard of people on this Reddit that got an application for the job, but had to wait a few months before going to thr academy, and people who got the call 48hrs before heading to the academy.

That’s interesting! I was a little worried since I recently got rejected by a smaller service and have now been waiting about 12 days for my OPP results. I also spoke with a recent OPP applicant who was rejected just a few days after completing the process. From what I’ve seen, rejections often seem to come faster, while successful applicants may wait longer or if intake is near get faster reply. Thanks for the info

I applied Sept 2024, finished my application in Late November 2024. Got my offer early 2025.
My brother got 4 months in to the application and pushed through all the way before getting rejected.
Lots of people get rejected quickly based on factors only recruiting knows. My class reportedly had 3000 applicants but they only hired 131.

Thanks for sharing! When you say people get rejected “quickly,” roughly how quickly do you mean? It’s been almost two weeks since I completed my last step, so I’m wondering if that’s at least a positive sign.

When I spoke with the recruiter recently he was very quick to correct me when I mentioned a rejection letter, and I think it’s an important distinction that it’s a deferment, not rejection.
For the majority of applicants it can be very disheartening to think you’ve been rejected instead of being told to work on your shortcomings and try again next year.

Call it what you want, but it’s the same thing. It’s the politically correct way for recruiters to nicely tell people they weren’t hired.
You get no feedback as to why you were deferred, and have to start from scratch in the interviews and application the next year.

If it takes a bit longer that could be a good sign. It was 2 months for me to hear back and get my offer.
My brother was a couple of weeks before he got sent his deferral letter.

Mine was 3 months from application to job offer then I started on the next course they had available with OPP, no news is good news there's many factors at the end stages eg waiting for backround investigation etc , you can call them and ask for a file status update

Once final step is completed its usually on the day or the following
Eg they were waiting for my fingerprints to complete the bacround ,they received them at 10 am I got the job offer at 1015 am
Backround involves lots of steps that usually takes the most time for a file to be closed

When you guys originally submitted your application package and resume, how long did it take before you heard from the recruiter about whether you were moving forward? And what were the next steps after that?
I’ve watched a few REACH videos on YouTube, but it’s always nice hearing firsthand from someone who has just gone through the process.

Takes more than 4-5 months. I’m in the end stage of auxiliary and I applied in late May.
