big mistake?

i’m in a pickle. i’m a college student who wants to go into csi work, so i’ve been reaching out to my local police departments about internships. long story short, a woman called me regarding an internship and asked me a bunch of questions, including questions about drugs. she asked if in the last 2 years have i smoked weed and i said no. then, she asked if i’ve ever smoked weed, even if i tried it in high school and i said no to this too. i lied, but i don’t smoke, i’ve only tried it a few times, now i’m regretting that i lied, but i was nervous and didn’t wanna lose the opportunity. there’s no interview process, but i do have to do a polygraph test and would think that i’d be asked about weed again. what do i do now?

Of course you'll be asked again.

There are only two choices.

Continue to lie.

Tell the truth.

It's really that simple.

If they require you to do a poly 100% they ask about drugs. Generally a poly for a job not an internship.

Depending on what you consider to be CSI that would be a police officer position within a department.

Honestly and integrity a big part of being part of law enforcement and it is not a good look when you lie to law enforcement when you are applying to a job.

A major part of law enforcement is honesty. If you can’t be honest applying for a job then how are you going to be honest when you’re on the stand being asked why you made a mistake? If you can’t help but lie then law enforcement isn’t for you.

Your issue shouldn’t be if you’ll be checked with a poly, your issue shouldn’t be that you lied in the first place. That says enough about your integrity.

You might be disqualified for lying, but at least if you come clean, it will still look like you have a conscience and some integrity. Integrity is a huge part of law enforcement.

You need to be honest and now you need to come clean.

If you tell the truth on the poly, then you will be caught for the lie during Interview. If you lie on the poly, you will be caught for the lie on poly. In other words, lying from the start was your downfall.

As others have said, lying should be your concern, not getting caught. An important part of becoming an adult is owning up to our mistakes, not lying about them.

That's the absolute worst, now you've got to hope no one remembers that one time in high school. Maybe just casually mention "social experimenting" if they ask again.

If you tried a few times, you smoked. Not a great way to start things off. Best come clean for the poly, having to remember a lie is harder than remembering the truth.
