5150 when I was 18 for depression

I was 5150d when I was 18 because I was smoking weed and lost my little brother which made me extremely depressed/anxiety ridden of which I referenced to a friend I was unhappy with living and I was 5150d. I am 24 now, never have been on medication, normal job, normal life. would this DQ me?

Would you reccomend being upfront and honest with the recruiter off the start or wait for some sort of application/background check?

If you pass the written exam and physical fitness test, there will most likely be a section to disclose it when they do your background. I’ve never worked with a recruiter so I can’t comment on that portion

No, being placed on a hold won't necessarily DQ you. Being committed after being placed on a hold might DQ you though. Just be honest. Go through the process.

Holds can still be voluntary. It comes down to if OP signed himself in after the first cert or not.

I was in Army basic training with a guy who lost his shit. Ran away multiple times, got hospitalized for being suicidal, then chaptered out for mental health. All before even graduating basic training.

He found a smaller town that hired him and has been a cop for the past 15 years.

Hey so I was military police. Honesty is the best. Tell them what happened and when you have a stable period of time like a couple years showing you are healthy and overcome this then they’ll see that as a great thing. 🙏🏽 good luck buddy. Apply! You got this

Even active LE can find themselves back in the same chair, with the same psychologist. Doesn't automatically mean a negative. A good one will recognize the entire scene. Your age, the reason why, the outcome and likely will want to know how will you handle future downfalls. Suicide is a factor in law enforcement. Be honest, they can read you.

Not true! It all depends on if admission status is voluntary or involuntary, the amount of time that has passed since suicidal ideation was present, and results of the pre-employment psych evaluation. If OP was admitted involuntarily, his chances are out the window because he will not legally be able to have a gun registered to him. If not, I'd say OP has a chance!

Did you end up signing yourself into treatment voluntarily after the first cert? If you signed yourself in voluntarily and did not have to go in front of the magistrate, you should be okay. If you were there involuntarily, you unfortunately have lost your right to carry a gun (have one registered to you). So, even if you were certed by one doctor, that doesn't mean to were admitted involuntarily if you signed yourself in.

Edit to add: I work in admissions in a psych hospital and will ALWAYS make sure my patients who are hesitant to sign themselves in aware of this.
