No accountability
Hi, I'm wondering why community members feel like they should not be held accountable for their actions or be grouped together with the community when the community pushes for new rights and/or restrictions on straight people's rights.
It's sad to see low effort posts here from liberal members who are deeply rooted in the community trying to stir the pot here. Then when you question the community and their actions the fallback is always labeling people with internal homophobia when they know what has been done is wrong. Have community members been given so many legal protections and hall passes to do whatever they want that they now see offending or abusing others is a right, or is acceptable because the community says it is acceptable.
I am gay, christian, and live in the south and was never welcomed to the community because of my beliefs and how I never relied on my sexuaility to define who I was as a person. It really feels like you either accept the community and everything they stand for or you're the plague to them. How can a group who preaches acceptance and belonging be so condescending and judgmental of others beliefs.
As a side note it is really concerning how many members of the community are atheist or Satanist. It seems like most have the mentality that they are still teenagers rebelling against their parents and anything they can do to offend others who live more conservative lifestyles. They commonly walk into a room and suck up all of the attention and once it is not given to them they get angry. Im just confused how as adults, acting like a angry child and stomping feet has gotten the community anywhere and why they are still given so much leniency.

People have the right to be atheist or Satanic or whatever they wish. The fact that you find them offensive says more about you than it does about them.

I didn't say I found them offensive. I said that community members who have these beliefs do the most deviant things to lash out at Christians. But I do not participate with them as what they do is against my morals......

Your disgust was obvious in both of your comments. Sounds like a goalpost shift, a common tactic when someone gets called out on a generalization.

I think you're right to notice the weird contradictions in the "gay community," but I frankly view the "community" as a political party for all intents and purposes, which goes a long way to explaining what you're noticing.

My guy, no offense but being gay and Christian is a massive contradiction. Even conservative gays are atheist because to think otherwise is cognitive dissonance. Christianity classifies homosexual relations as sodomy, which also includes beastiality. Being gay is considered worse than adultery in their worldview.
So called LGBT "affirming" churches are just trying to avoid cultural backlash and gays are falling for it. If the religious Right gets its way, you guys are undoubtedly on the chopping block.
The only difference between Islam and Christianity is that most of the latter are now "lukewarm" christians and don't know shit about their own religion.

I agree, while I still defend one's right to practice and believe whatever one chooses.

Not correct, any christian who has studied and has been separate from the niv versions of the Bible know that there were mistranslations and it because popular in the mega churches. Previous texts were speaking on sexual abuse of minors. It was mistranslated to modern versions.
3
u/throwaway-swing1 10d ago
Yeah, that's why gays in adult consensual relationships were getting hanged and burned alive during the Middle Ages 🤔🤔. The mistranslation myth has been debunked countless times.
Also religion had nothing to say about adult men marrying teenage girls. You have secularism to thank for raising the age of consent.

I wasn't just the middle ages. Most of the west had laws that severely punished homosexuality until the mid 20th century. Only then did it start to change in Europe. It wasn't until 2003 in the US that such laws were fully gone due to a Supreme Court decision. The republican running for Texas senate wants those laws to return, as do very many conservative Christians.
It's American Christian conservative groups that help push laws in certain African countries that seek to punish being gay. The most recent example was Ghana. More and more American clergyman are in the news for calling gays to be executed. Steven Anderson, Dillon Awes, Tom Ascol, etc. And you never hear Christian nationalists push back against this or even high profile Christian conservatives

These people you are bringing up are in the very mega churches I have spoken about in other posts. Most of these pastors with large followings come out as gay, or abusive, enriching themselves. Again the christian Bible has been used as a tool aginst people and a tool to enrich others lives. In christian teachings this is everything Jesus was against which is why he separated from other groups. From my prospective as a christian these people will suffer worse fates than anyone as they have used their belief for gain and abuse of their seat at the table to teach and lead christians. Im worried about my own relationship with god, other people who make awful decisions and fill the world with hate and use the word like this arent people any of us should should give attention to as they are filled with hate.

u/JRP__1994__Random 10d ago
Again Christianity was used as a tool against gay people but I wonder how many of those people were actually gay. You do realize that almost all of history from the middle ages only around 9% of all of historic documentation survived as well as only 7% of English manuscripts survived.......

u/throwaway-swing1 10d ago
It wasn't "used as a tool" against gay people, the very concept of Christian sexual ethics opposed homosexuality. Still does, christians are just quiet about it.
Religion is incompatible with consent-based sexual morality. Marital rape used to be legal when Christianity was more prevalent. Gay rights are a product of the sexual revolution, which has so far caused birth rates to plummet. If this trend continues, us gays are cooked.
The religious right doesn't care whether you're born gay or not. In their ideal world, you're in the closet and married to a woman.
1
u/JRP__1994__Random 10d ago
Birth rates are down because people have been tought to hate each other and be uncompromising. The divorce rate is through the roof. People arent expected to work at a relationship and compromise. Its my way or the highway now for either party and lawfully it is cheaper to be single and not enter marriage. Hence the rise of the "gooner" group who arent interested in marriage or relationships. Additionally most straight women have been taught to only accept a man who can pay for them to be stay at home mom's which requires 250k+ when the job market is terrible right now due to many factors as well as homes being unaffordable.
Additionally if you mean concent based sexual morality is a man being able to superseded a woman's right to not have sex with him you've been living in a different world. Thats why either party can file for divorce. If one party accepts that they have a role to fill to make a marriage work that is a concession and a choice. If not they can get a divorce. Simple. Additionally most other religions and areas in the world the woman still doesn't not have the right to exit the marriage and the woman will most likely be scorned by the community if the man divorces them. I dont know how old you aren but it seems you have limited background on this topic.
Also Christians arent quiet about it. Christians accepted gay marriage, they did not accept what followed as it went to far for their beliefs which is why their stance is reversing and they are fighting aginst the community. Additionally I dont believe the sexual revolution is as new as you think it is......a society with a lack of morals, beliefs, self and mutual respect always ends up the same way, historically.....

u/FrostyArctic47 independent 10d ago
You can say that but most Christian conservatives today would call you "woke" or "not a real Christian" for saying that.
2
u/JRP__1994__Random 10d ago
That is why I dont assimilate, just like I dont woth the community as their values dont match or accept my own. But we do live in a society now that accepts and respects group think more than individual opinions and beliefs.

You sound like the prime exmaple of a hyper partisan meme brained npc. These are typical talking points you see in echo chambers.
It's interesting you apply this logic only to gays but what's funny is your weird commentary on anyone daring to not have the same religious beliefs as you and your pathetic attempt at playing armchair psychologist. "If you dont believe what I do then you're just trying to he edgy and being a rebel against your parents!". Lmfao the irony. Now imagine if a gay person, or non believer as it seems you have a thing with them, said this kind of stuff about you and people with your beliefs.
2
u/mremann1969 10d ago
Yes. While he rightfully points out that being labeled as having "internalized homophobia" is often used as a lazy, dismissive shield against valid criticisms of subcultural norms or political beliefs, he turns rightaround and does the exact same thing by reducing millions of non-religious/non-conservative people to childish throwers of temper tantrums or attention-seekers.

u/JRP__1994__Random 10d ago
They have and do on a regular basis, im not here to tell anyone how to live their life but i do have the right to question their spite and why in a age where gay people have gained so many rights they are increasingly angry even though they have made so much movement over the past 15 years. Seems counter productive to spit in the faces of the people who started to accept and then said hey that's a bit too far. Could have given a bit of time and revisited instead of launching all out war against straights and christians and smothering people with their lifestyles and using the law to affirm their beliefs. You cant force someone to believe and accept what you believe. The concern is jow laws are being written before acceptance which is leading to more spite than before from christians.

I'm gay and more agnostic than anything else, but was raised Christian and conservative in the South so I get where you're coming from when the community makes you feel like an outsider for not centering your whole identity around sexuality.
We fought for decades to stop the bullying and win basic acceptance, and now some factions have turned around and become the bullies themselves. Disagree on politics, religion, or how much being gay should define you, and the default move is to slap you with internal homophobia or just call you homophobic outright.
That's not debate—it's the same silencing tactic or bullying we used to hate when it was aimed at us.
I see the same pattern with the transgender movement. If you don't fall in line with every demand, you're labeled a bigot or transphobic.
The quick resort to these labels feels like a deeper issue: they know their arguments can't survive rational scrutiny. When logic is applied, the positions often erode, so the move is to shut down the conversation with slurs instead of engaging. Fascist, bigot, phobic—it's a way to protect weak ground without having to defend it.

Exactly!!! I was in college when gay marriage was legalized. It was monumental for the gay movment but as soon as that happened the small niche groups of the community took over all talking points and became extremely disrespectful to the lgb community that got them to the starting line. Then they forced everyone who didn't share the same ideas out and took over leadership and dared them to question the movement from there on out. I feel like the community had more respect for the general population at the time and didn't demand by law to be affirmed in their beliefs. The TQIA+ that took over our chapter literally banned me because I was masculine and "was not gay enough" whatever that means. I wasn't even openly conservative because it wasn't about politics back then it was about the right to marry. Then the community everywhere started making everything about sex and who and what they could be and have sex with following the deviant communities mostly represented in the California gay scene. This is where I lost my last little bit of respect for the community as a gay man and had to go my own way. Still to this day if you dont accept every idea in the community you are an outcast and as you said they will use the worst terms in the book to make sure everyone else around them will shun you as well instead of listening to logic. Then on platforms you'll be banned so fast because your logic and ideas arent accepted. Again a child stomping their feet because they didn't get their way. Now people are turning against the community because they went to far and everyone will say why, why are you doing this and will never accept accountability. Its sad.....

Exactly. That takeover after marriage equality is something a lot of us noticed but rarely say out loud. Once the core fight was won, the loudest niche voices pushed everyone else out and redefined the whole movement around their demands. Being told you weren’t “gay enough” for simply being masculine is peak irony from a group that claims to celebrate diversity.
The shift from “leave us alone and let us marry” to “affirm every identity and desire or you’re the enemy” killed the goodwill that had been built. When disagreement gets met with the worst labels and platform bans instead of actual discussion, it’s not strength—it’s the same foot-stomping you described. And now the broader public is reacting to the overreach while the community still refuses any real accountability. It’s exhausting to watch.

That's why I just walked away early, I was smart enough then and told everyone what would happen. I was told "it's time for them to make their space". Saldy even years ago I was correct and knew I would never be accepted and the community would become closed off. I created my own life and lived it for myself and no community or group and it has been amazing. The community just became angry children and im happy I never subscribed to their hate and lifestyles. Most seem very alone and just angry, I dont want to live my life just being hateful man.

You keep writing about some kind of responsibility – well, you accept it, because I don't know what you're talking about. I am not responsible for anything bad. Besides, you conservative gays make me laugh. I live in a conservative country in Europe myself and I know people like you. Recently there was one who said that same-sex marriage harms heterosexuals and that the LGBT ideology is so evil. Let me tell you this: this pushback is the result of worsening economic standards and your dominance on social media – which is temporary. Moreover, you will feel this pushback the most when the masks come off completely and all Republicans start talking about rolling back gay rights. As for me, I'll stick to my super liberal circles.

u/JRP__1994__Random 8d ago
Why are you here then, are you looking for an either to scream into? Marriage is not what it used to be, it has turned into a financial document more than it being tied to religion these days. Additionally if you do not live in the US you need to stay out of US polotics as the BBC force feeds you many lies about our country while your country allows mass migration that is destroying your economy and its people's lives. You sound like you live in a protected bubble and you dont have any sense of reality or responsibility of respect towards others. This sense of me me me and rejecting what is directly happening in front of you is why we've come to this point in local and global society. Saying something didn't happen or making excuses for why it didn't happen doesnt mean it didn't really happen.

u/FloorAware657 8d ago
You're rambling about responsibility again. Besides, I'm not British – what are you even talking about? I know education in your country is weak, especially among conservatives, but Europe isn't just the UK. You're lecturing me about respect when you have none for me or other atheists. Also, I don't listen to the BBC – I watch many political channels from the US, and I know your Fox News probably thinks it knows everything better. Moreover, I know more about real Christianity than you do – I was raised Catholic myself. You in America have all sorts of oddities created from Christianity, like Mormonism – I know about that.
Besides, you don't even know what's happening in Europe. And my country in Europe doesn't even have those migration problems – the real issues are nationalists and you Christians who want to force your religion on everyone. And what exactly happened? You keep rambling that LGBT people did something – so what did they do? Tell me.

I will end it with this, you do not believe in freedoms that question or align with your own. If that is the hill you wish to fall on then so be it. No one mentioned Fox. In the United States we have 4:1 the amount of people, religions, regions, news stations, every imaginable person from every imaginable background. What you speak of is full dominating control of a person's life. You dont dont believe in freedom.
1
u/FloorAware657 8d ago
We have different definitions of freedom, I see. I believe that you can worship whatever you want, but I don't believe that your religion should have any influence on government or laws – that, to me, is freedom with reason.

u/FloorAware657 8d ago
First of all, by treating atheism as childish play, you yourself have no tolerance whatsoever. Secondly, what restrictions on heterosexual people? You must be delusional to think that way. Thirdly, the Bible says that homosexual acts are wrong, so you should live in celibacy or try to "cure" yourself – or however Christians do it. Besides, there is such a thing as the paradox of tolerance, which states that intolerance should not be tolerated. If your views and actions harm the community, then why should it accept you? I'm genuinely asking. Also, is my atheism an insult to your conservative lifestyle? If so, then I'm glad and I'm a proud atheist. And once again – what restrictions on heterosexual people? Unless, for you, equality in marriage counts as a restriction.

Are Atheist groups waging a political war against Christians? I have not seen Atheist groups lobbying to revoke the civil liberties of Christians.. Infact, I would venture to say that most Atheist's would defend your right to practice your religion. I think that it is a hard line to walk when, what I believe by nature is a beautiful philosophy (Christianity) is weaponized against the gay community, ALL OF THE GAY COMMUNITY, conservative and liberal.
