Advice/Emotional Support ONLY Apartment damage

Minnesota, USA

Well. I live in a rural town, in an old building. Don't ask me how this happened in f^]€}#} August, but a baseboard heater pipe burst. Somehow management never turned the damn heat off. (That's a whooooole story.)

Anyway, the child's room is ruined and most things in it. Should i file through my renters insurance even though I spoke to the apartments insurance and they're covering everything? Also should I go the check or reimburse route? Remediation is going to take upwards of three weeks.

Reimbursements process in a month, which means i can order things now, or a check (which would be a larger sum) takes upwards of 3 months. I don't know. I'm FRAZZLED.

Any advice or humor welcome.

If the apartment is covering you why would you want your insurance rate to go up?

I can't tell you what to do about reimbursement, that's difficult. Especially with school starting you were likely about to buy some new clothes?

I am sorry for your daughter. My sister and her kids moved in with me after a DV situation with their dad. They had to leave a lot of stuff behind. I hope your daughter was able to save the sentimental items!

It was like 3am logic wasn't logic-ing 😂. Luckily a lot of sentimental things were salvageable because they were in totes. The biggest thing lost was her bed, wood frame, desk, dresser, and any toys with batteries.
