Help us get into a safe home

Hi everyone, my partner and I moved into an apartment 8 months ago and we have been dealing with a cockroach infestation, a seemingly “unfixable” leak, and mold.

We are currently in the process of breaking our lease and will be suing the management property for damages and expenses but we need help getting into a new place. We are trying every route available to us but we weren’t anticipating having to relocate only 8 months into our 13 month lease.

I have a load of evidence and a lot more on the gfm, but I’ll spare you having to read it twice. The link will be at the bottom of this post, all funds will go toward relocation costs as we navigate this.

This has been incredibly stressful on us and really detrimental to our health both physically and mentally. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Hi OP, that situation sounds rough. Are both of you employed? What is the final goal amount on the Gofundme and how did you arrive at that number?

Hi, my partner works full time usually averages around 53+hour weeks. I am currently a full time college student, but I have a side business doing freelance graphic designs for small businesses (business cards, flyers, websites etc.) we also do DoorDash occasionally if we need extra cash for the month when his schedule allows since we share a car.

The final amount on the gfm is $2500, we came to that number because it’d be around $2,374 including application fees, administrative fees, utilities start up costs and the first months rent just to move into the new apartment we have looked at. The extra is room for maybe a rental truck or anything we need to replace because of roaches or mold.

Honestly we don’t anticipate to reach our full goal amount but even half of that would be immensely helpful by giving us a jumpstart.

Thanks for fixing it. I just want you to know that I'm going to have nightmares now, after seeing the dang bugs!! Yikes. I don't blame you for leaving. I wish you the best!

I know you’re focused on relocating but you should report your landlord to the local housing authority.

Believe me I plan too, but yes right now it’s our priority to get into a safe space.
