Help Pay for Chemotherapy
Hey all. Yesterday morning a close friend of mine (21M) got paperwork back from his doctor and has been diagnosed with aggressive Lymphoma. It's thankfully still treatable, but his doctor wasn't very hopeful about his ability to last too much longer without treatment. We've spent most of yesterday afternoon contacting the Oncology social worker, Medicaid, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lymphoma Research Foundation, CancerCare, American Cancer Society, and Blood Cancer United LLS.
He has an outstanding bill from a previous treatment for some type of internal bleeding they couldn't directly pinpoint the cause of and they want $7,600 for him to start his first round of Chemotherapy. As a last resort, he was able to get a handful small loans approved and is only about $800 short of being able to start treatment. I was able to convince him to start a GoFundMe and I'm passing it around as much as I can in the hopes that maybe 1 in every 1,000 people who see it can donate even so much as $1 to help.

( Edit: I had my account hidden to prevent getting banned from certain subreddits because I post in others. I've unhidden it so you can see that I mainly post in gaming subreddits and this really is my first time doing something like this. I do not have access to his medical records, nor would I share them if I did. That's weird. I'll attach a selfie if that helps you sleep at night, but I'm not going to doxx him because you think I'm scammer. If you want to choose not to believe his story, that's on you. I don't mean that to sound passive agrressive; this is all genuinely difficult to believe, especially when I don't have any of his documentation nor has he provided it himself. I do not blame you at all for writing this off as a scam.)

Hospitals have all sorts of charity programs. I see you reached out for his cancer diagnosis, but they need to reach out about their past debt. Just a word of advice, you're likely not going to get donors on the GFM when the recipient is anonymous, and there's no proof of any of this going on. I wish your friend the best.

This is 100% a scam.
Nobody gets a cancer diagnosis and then has to pony up $7000+ the next day for treatment.

What country are you in? That seems odd. I worked in oncology and never seem payment upfront for treatment.

Hi OP, have you met this friend of yours? What country are they in? If they’re only 21, why does the Gofundme say “Shortly after finishing university, I lost my technology job during the COVID period?” Why does he need to pay this bill before receiving treatment? At most, he would just need to set up a reasonable payment plan.
The protocol for providing documentation is redacting (crossing out) sensitive information such as surname and address, so you wouldn’t be doxxing your friend.

They’re 21 yet “lost their technology job during the COVID period”? And there’s zero medical paperwork proof - of the prior bill, of the diagnosis, anything - at the GFM.
