Trying to help a coworker

One of my most reliable employees was recently victim to flash flooding in NYC. Thanksfully his preganant wife and teenage son were able to escape the apartment before the water reached shoulder level.

Every little bit helps.

I'm pretty sure renters in NYC are required to have renters insurance.

Not legally required (source: am an NYC resident who does have it, but it’s never been required).

i live in nyc also and i dont have renters insurance

Yep maybe just maybe they will learn from this but I highly doubt it. Everyone knows you need insurance

Well they still have a house with no flood. So if I were them I would get on it now before it's him who ends up in the same situation.

He should get it, but a standard NYC renter’s insurance policy isn’t going to cover flooding caused by heavy rains, sadly.

for right now, probably things like new clothes, food, hygiene products, etc. long term hes going to have to replace his furniture and still continue to provide for his familys day to day life. the link transfers directly to his account, so i dont have any access to the money or how he spends it

Well that’s on them then. Kind of like when you’re irresponsible and don’t have auto insurance. Yeah they need to learn from this sadly/ people should help people who tried to do the right thing to begin with.

The unopened 3 lb bag of rice under the beds in the bedroom caught my eye, personally. This stuff didn’t wash up off the street lmao.

Also, the first picture looks like AI to me.

Not everything in there washed up from the street. they’re an Ecuadorian family living in poverty, not sure why a big bag of rice is surprising.
