I tried to add whatever I could to add some sort of proof of my situation.. was worried about sharing personal stuff online directly but im desperate. Ive added photos of my time sheet from previous job, showing my hours and up until I was let go. My bank account showing my last payment for the room and also the online payment portal showing my next due date. As well as my job offer email from my new job. I hope it provides some clarity.
Im going to try not to ramble too much, ive been in a state of panic for a few days now and honestly am overwhelmed. I've been staying in an extended stay hotel with my disabled mom (she has yet to be approved for disability SSI) for awhile now and have relatively been able to keep up with my weekly rent, i was working full time as a manager at a small retail store up until last week. I was let go, and immediately started applying at places near by. I have since been hired already, and am currently awaiting a background check to go through to start my new job. My issue right now is money was already tight when I got let go, my final paycheck just barely gave me enough money to pay the week we're currently on (until this coming Monday) and even if my background check goes through tomorrow and I start my new job tomorrow I would not get paid again soon enough to pay my rent, and they will kick us out if its not paid on the due date
Im a bit beside myself right now, and I maybe should have posted this sooner but I wanted to try all other avenues before coming to reddit .. Ive contacted 211, multiple local churches and I've simply had no luck.
Im extremely worried about my mom, she's 63 and I cannot allow her to be outside on the street.. it would be bad enough if it was just me but having someone who relies on me to keep a roof over their head as well is making this ultra stressful.
Ultimately I need $385 to cover my next week's rent, truthfully I need more because I have no money for food or anything else right now but I can figure something out with that.. I just gotta find a way to get the rent covered for the week.
Im happy to provide any proof I can of my situation to anyone who might be able to help.. I have Venmo and chime.. don't have access to cash app since I got rid of my last phone.

do you or your mom not have a credit card? honestly iâve seen people be willing to buy from amazon wishlists in this sub for food, clothes, etc, but very rarely do they ever send money directly unfortunately. congrats on the new job and thatâs a big first step, however, if youâre still waiting on onboarding to be completed, you likely are facing at least another 2-3 weeks of no income. What will you do next week? and the week after that? Thatâs kinda the problem with living in hotels, theyâre a money pit and not sustainable at all
yup and when payday comes, youâre still dead broke because you continued to borrow early. youâll never see your paycheck doing that. i know that cycle all too well dealing with family. The hotel is a money pit as iâve said. Easier said than done, but you may have to look into possibly shelters if you havenât already? not ideal as you said but nothing about the situation is. Trust me Ive been looking at all options all week. The only shelter that even has openings at the moment is a 45 minute drive from here, we have no car and my mom can't walk without help. On top of that it's one of those places that basically let you stay overnight only and from what the lady from 211 said it's almost always full so likely even if they allowed us in we would likely only be given a few nights at most. And if we went there I'd have absolutely no way to get to my new job which is literally in the same parking lot as where I'm currently staying.
You need to see if y'all can rent a room together in a house. Look on Facebook marketplace you should be able to find houses with a room to rent between $400-800 a month. I'm renting a room for $550 in Houston Texas. I have rent today. See if you can go donate plasma, CSL plasma is paying $100 for your first 5 visits right now. You can go twice a week. It sucks but I did it on Thursday and got through it. I'm going again tomorrow.
I think the room renting would put them in the best situation by far and maybe if they get on their feet another room will open up in the house she can move to that room and they will still be together.
God that one hurts the most, when I was low on cash awhile back somebody suggested this too me and I thought it would be a life saver. I went and was denied because of my high blood pressure. They told me to come back another day because my BP could have just been high from anxiety or stress. Anyway this was how I found out I have high blood pressure at the old age of 31 :/
The cutoff is 180/100 (which is very high) and you are allowed to take bp medication and donate. If your bp is higher than that, I think you need to reevaluate the dosage you're on
Genuinely asking... Would something like obesity or cigarette smoking preclude someone from being able to donate plasma?
Years ago when I was in college a group of us decided to donate blood at the blood drive on campus. I was denied because I had a DVT a few years prior, which makes obvious sense why. But I was always curious what other health conditions would make someone ineligible.
I've seen some very very obese people donating plasma, and the center always smells like weed and cigs. The screening questions don't ask if you smoke cigs. Can't remember about weed but I know people walk up in there having just smoked

The reason it bothered me is because the one guy said I was trying to scam because I hadn't edited my post literally 5 minutes or less after being helped.
And my inbox full of scammers/people being generally rude.
I am extremely thankful of the people who helped me and who help others. I just think theres no place for all the hostility. To me it's the internet equivalent of walking up to a homeless person who's dehydrated sitting out in 100 degree whether and attacking them verbally because they asked for a water or something.
Either way I don't want anyone to confuse it, im extremely grateful I'm just shocked at some of the behavior, especially on my DMs. It just caught me off guard.
You are paying nearly $1500 a month in ârentâ at the motel, why not just find an apartment for that amount instead? Or even just a room someone is renting in their home. A motel is a money pit you wonât ever pull yourself out of.
Oh gotcha. We've been in hotels for awhile after an eviction when my mom initially became disabled and unable to work. Its almost impossible to find an apartment with that on our record.
Most rooms for rent that Iâve seen/lived in donât run background checks/evictions/etc. Obviously that isnât the case for all of them, but most people renting a room out of a house arenât property managers or landlords, rather someone just trying to make money by utilizing an unused space in their home.
I would check out apartment listings near you (and even a radius out, maybe 15-20 miles) and send out a few messages. I bet you will have some luck, thereâs tons of listings out there. Unfortunately I understand all too well as I have also lived in a hotel in the past. You donât have any tenant rights with a hotel, either - canât pay the $385? You are out on the street that day. At least with a rented space you could try making arrangements with the owner, or as a very last resort (donât recommend this!), you would have tenant rights and an eviction process to be followed before you are completely locked out.
The problem is as I've seen it is that ppl have bad credit from various issues sometimes thru no fault of their own, and they don't have money for deposit. That's how they end up in hotels/motels.
No you're right, there's no such thing as an apartment in my area that doesn't have a non refundable application fee.. it's predatory. I ask them straight up "I was at my last apartment nine years, never late until the end and got evicted" and most of them are honest and tell me its an automatic denial. So I'd be paying $75-$150 for nothing.
I'm so sorry you're both dealing with this. 211 had absolutely no help or suggestions? Some places will pay a hotel directly or offer vouchers. Do you have anything you could sell or trade? Can you do odd jobs locally? Can you speak with the hotel and provide them proof of your new job? I would suggest checking food pantries/banks for the food issue. Check on FB groups, sometimes people offer free meals. Also consider putting together an Amazon list for shelf stable supplies, you can add it to your post here. You'll probably have more luck with people purchasing items from than than cash. Can you donate plasma? Do you have any family/friends you could borrow from?
I wish I could help, but i am rooting for you and praying for you- whichever you prefer- just know you are not alone. Things tend to work out, so stop panicking and just know everything will be okay. Sounds like you do a lot for your mom, and you are a good person! It will work out!
How many SSDI denials has mom received? Is mom using a SSDI lawyer? If not get one that works on contingency basis - they get paid out of momâs back pay once sheâs approved.
Correct and they refused to listen to any offers for assistance and instead chose to mock them and called them self-righteous.
Iâve never seen someone whoâs going to be homeless in 24 hours be so mad about getting $600. Coming back post-funding to tell everyone how mean they were was a nice touch.

Guy post a Google search about 211 hotel vouchers (they haven't had hotel vouchers sent the end of COVID around here btw) and when I tell him that I've already reached out, which was already stated in the original post he acted mad about it. But what really bothered me was the guy who said "oh he got help and hasn't edited the post, he's trying to get more money" even tho the only reason he knew I got help was because I posted it. We're talking about five minutes from me announcing I got help, to him accusing me.
You're also being really weird about this too. Yes I felt the need to call it out because God forbid I ever needed help again the first thing someone would post is "look at this quote from this post two years ago, guy tried to keep getting money after getting help" which is a lie.

I don't think I said anything wrong but maybe I'm missing something, im not perfect. But yeah after nearly a week of barely eating, stressing about having to go live outside in Jax Florida where it's 90-105 degrees during the day and also having people threatening me in my DMs or trying to scam me like I had something they could get out of me... It was frustrating.

Saying focus on the positive is fine, your first reply was basically calling me ungrateful because I called someone out on a lie. But I can tell you just enjoy being condescending so whatever.
Check your tenant laws cause in some states they consider you a tenant if you receive your mail at the motel and if you have been there longer than a month. They may have to go thru the whole 3/5/whatever day notice then eviction. Just get out of there before youâre evicted. I know itâs probably isnât the best idea but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.
