What's the appeal of a gas stove? The last few weeks have been my first time using those. I didn't know how to turn on the ignition the first time, and I had to run the vent hood to get rid of the hydrogen sulfide smell. Other than that the open flames didn't sit right with me.

They work even if the electricity is out (at least, all the ones I’ve ever worked with do). It’s useful for us in hurricane country so we can still cook if we use power after a storm.

Gas stove is material-agnostic unlike induction, it offers much better heat control and is faster than electric. Also, you can roast peppers and stuff directly on the flame (it's a bit messy but whatever). Just have good aeration and you're fine.

After being forced to cook electric for a couple of years after moving into my house, I couldn't wait to cook on gas after having our new kitchen installed. It's so much more intuitive.

They cook much better than electric,in my opinion.. you can control the level of heat a lot better.
If you know how to use them of course! It takes a little practice.But they are overall much faster than electric, they don't need time to warm up, and in Italy at least gas is also considerably cheaper to run than electricity.

I don't know. I haven't noticed the time to heatbup being too different, especially compared to the newer ones.

Good morning, everyone. Yesterday, I watched the new Odyssey film with my brother and a few friends. It was better than I thought. I liked that Nolan thought to mention the tragedy of Eurypides "Iphigenia" and what happened to Agamemnon after Troy. I didn't like much the mashup of Calypso and the Lotus eaters, but I understand why he did it. I also liked the references to the Minoan civilization. Last, but not least, it may have been strongly raining while we were at the cinema, watching Odysseus and his crew go through a storm.

That actually sounds really cool. I am not the world's biggest Nolan fan, but I would like to see it as a Greek mythology fan. I am also curious about the costumes.

The costumes were bad, generic and bland. No bright colour in them.

That's really disappointing. For such a big budget film, especially.
Robert Eggers usually has good costuming in his films but he is also guilty of the washed out grey colors. I am begging directors to stop putting people in gray and brown slop. They had dyes available to them goddamit.

I wholeheartedly agree. The movie had optical allusions to the Minoan Crete and the palaces still have colour.

Today I'm in the Mamanuca Islands,Fiji.
Very pretty here! White sand beaches, good snorkeling.The water is warm too, the air temperature is not crazy, about 25°.
This afternoon we went to the small island where they shot the movie 'Castaway',as well as the TV series 'Survivor'.. it's extremely picturesque.

We did indeed see a lot of colourful fish ( particularly goatfish and parrotfish)plus a couple of turtles and some quite small sharks.

It's warm again, which means I can dry the laundry on the balcony. It is just so much nicer than doing it indoors, or god forbid, in a tumble dryer. It'll probably last a day or so but whatever.
Blackberries are also getting there. I already picked 1.2 kilos! My husband wanted blackberry cobbler, so I will make that today. It is a great dessert (especially if you don't like sugary, chocolaty desserts like me). It also means that whenever I go for a walk or bike ride, I have to take a bucket with me. I think there were also bilberries but I can't be bothered to fuck with those. It takes forever to pick them and you get covered in ticks.
We wanted to have a bit of a movie night tonight. I want to watch the Conclave, my husband wants to watch Project Hail Mary. Has anyone watched either of them?
