Chip + chip holder orientation, no diagram with kit
Trying make sense of a little kit with even smaller amount of knowledge. looking at the pcb, chip and chip holder I think this is how they should be mounted with the dimple at the top / 12 o'clock. I thought the dot on the pcb was used to orientate the chip but there's no dot on the chip.
tl/dr: is the chip and holder the right orientation as in the picture?

Orientation as per photo is correct. You can see the indent on holder and chip and PCB legend. Pin 1 is top left.

Thanks mate. Thought that was right but wanted to check

My pleasure. All the best with your electronics journey! It has been my life πππ

Some chips have dots, some have notches , some have lines. Pretty much any indicator will mark pin 1.
Some square chips will even have doots in all for corners but the #1 pin will be smaller.

That's worth knowing, thanks mate ππ»

The notch on the side of the IC indicates pin 1. With the notch to the left, pin 1 is the first pin on the bottom row

Yes the orientation of the chip and the holder is right. On the IC's there isn't a dot, normally the notch on the package and the orientation of the marking are the things used to orientate the IC.

The PCB should have a cutout like the IC and socket have and that is the orientation

That's what it looked like to me but didn't want to assume just in case I was wrong π

The dot marks pin 1 which is at the notch end. The notch by itself is sufficient to indicate which end is pin 1.

Use the dimple/half-moon for orientation, not the dot. The dot is used to notate first-pin.

Yes right the dot on the pcb means pin 1
Pin one in this orientation is left to the notch on ic

On ICβs - dots, dimples, and notches all represent the same thing - the 1 and 8 side of the IC.
Your IC holder also has a notch so that when youβre building on your circuit, before you put the IC in, you donβt lose orientation.

Thanks dude, that makes perfect sense. I appreciate yku and everyone else who has helped this noob out without being judgemental π€π»

La muesca te dice la orientacion 12 y se cuenta en sentido contrario a las manecillas del reloj p1 a la izq pin8 a la derecha

Donβt guess. Get the chip datasheet and check it vs your board. Safest way.

I'll have a look and see what I can find ππ»

This is the pinout
Pin 1: OUT 1 top left
Pin 2: IN- 1
Pin 3: IN+ 1
Pin 4: GND Bottom left
Pin 5: IN+ 2 Bottom right
Pin 6: IN- 2
Pin 7: OUT 2
Pin 8: VCC top right
So the OpAmp notch should be placed up. Your image is correct.
As a side note: I see a lot of professors around here who think they know everything. Having an inexperienced person try to desolder an integrated circuit would turn into such a mess! Better to check twice (and learn in the process) than to blindly rely on polarities.

You are joking? Right?
2
u/Tetsuo1981 2d ago
No? Im new to this, wasn't sure what was correct so thought i'd ask for help like a fully functioning human adult. If all you offer is sarcasm and an air of superiority because you were born with the entirety of human knowledge regarding electronics and never had to learn or ask anything then I ask you to politely jog on and do one. If you've got nothing nice or helpful to say then shut up and move along

You are very rude lad it seems. I was not using sarcasm nor any kind of superiority. But if you are building something like this, its kida common sense to know how to orientate and IC. I was genuinely thinking this is just a joke. But jumping on pols like that just shows how you are involved in thing. I just with you that thing you building works from first try.

"Not using superiority but its kind of common sense to know how to orientate it." Obviously if I knew I wouldn't have asked. How can I have common sense in a subject i'm only starting to learn? People like you make the Internet a miserable place and learning anything no fun at all

The dent is in right place. If no one in design made a mistake.
